Meet Romain Pourveer, Director of Golf at Michlifen Golf & Country Club

Our team caught up with Romain Pourveer, director of golf at the new Michlifen Golf & Country Club. During our sit down, we found out why he took this new challenge and what makes the resort an unmissable destination in Morocco.

Can you tell us a bit more about yourself ?

Born in Valence, France, I discovered golf when I was 13 through my parents who helped me build a real passion for the game. After my graduation in Business Management, Golf,  I had the chance to work in different areas within golf such as operations, events and marketing.

Before joining Michlifen Golf & Country Club, I worked at Samanah Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Design in Marrakech, as Golf Operations Manager for about four years. I’ve also helped in the organization of prestigious professional tournaments such as the final of the Ladies Qualifying School Lalla Aicha LET for three consecutive years.

Following this very rewarding experience and as I’m always looking for new challenges, I flew to Sri Lanka to be part of a new Shangri-La 5-star Golf Resort. Having carried this project to maturity, I was then contacted by IMG to work with them on Michlifen Golf & Country Club’s opening. The ambition, prestige and excellence of this project signed by Jack Nicklaus did not make me hesitate for a second to join the team as Director of Golf.

You are the Director of Golf at the newly opened Michlifen Golf & Country Club in Ifrane, Morocco. What got you excited about this new opportunity? 

I worked in Morocco in the past and I must admit that this destination is very special for me. I chose to come back here especially for this amazing and ambitious project in Ifrane, one of the most scenic cities in Morocco. The course was designed by 18-time Major Champion Jack Nicklaus, who has created prestigious golf courses all around the world. This is his first Signature in North Africa so I feel very excited to be part of it.

Golf is in full development in Morocco, the number of golfers is constantly growing and we are fortunate to see the European Tour (Hassan II Trophy) and the Ladies European Tour (Lalla Meryem) coming here every year.

What makes Michlifen Golf & Country Club so special and different?

Can you describe the golf course and what type of golfer it was built for?

This 18 Hole golf course, Par 72 with 7,325 yards, is a Native parkland.

Michlifen Golf & Country Club boasts a majestic, preserved natural setting in the heart of the Middle Atlas, a region known for the charm of its Alpine-style architecture.

This superb championship  course is located at an altitude of 1,650 metres and is dotted with breathtaking panoramic views, stands of hundred-year-old trees and rocky outcrops that are a reminder of the force of time.

What is the owners vision and how will you help accomplish this strong vision? 

In October 2010 the Owner (ONCF), invited Jack Nicklaus to Ifrane in order to check the site that was personally chosen by His Royal Highness. The company vision was to create an unforgettable experience in the heart of Morocco, offering something completely different from the other touristic areas.
