Golf at Assoufid Golf Club

Nestled in the heart of Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands, Hamilton Island Golf Club stands as a testament to the seamless blend of natural beauty and sporting excellence. Located on the serene Dent Island, this exclusive 18-hole championship course offers golfers an unparalleled experience amidst the splendour of the Great Barrier Reef.

Opened in 2009, Hamilton Island Golf Club is Australia’s only 18-hole championship course situated on its own island. Designed by five-time British Open champion Peter Thomson in collaboration with architect Ross Perrett, the par-71 course stretches over 6,140 meters and presents a compelling mix of challenge and beauty. Each hole thoughtfully integrates the island’s natural topography, with elevated tees, undulating fairways, and greens nestled in natural amphitheatres.

Among the most iconic holes is the 14th, often referred to as the “Valley of Death,” which challenges even the most experienced golfers with its combination of elevation changes and surrounding hazards. What sets Hamilton Island apart is not just the design, but also the journey to the course itself: a short, scenic ferry ride from Hamilton Island ensures an intimate, exclusive golfing experience. The clubhouse, designed by Chris Beckingham, complements the island’s beauty with modern architecture and sweeping views of Dent Passage, making it a perfect spot to relax after a round.

Hamilton Island is not just a golfer’s paradise — it is a destination filled with experiences for every type of traveller. The island offers more than 60 curated activities ranging from exhilarating water sports and sailing adventures to peaceful bushwalking trails and wildlife encounters. For those who prefer relaxation, luxury pools and spa retreats provide the perfect escape.
Accommodations on the island reflect the destination’s commitment to high-end comfort, from stylish apartments to resort villas with private balconies overlooking the Coral Sea. Culinary experiences are equally enticing, with restaurants offering everything from fresh seafood to gourmet international cuisine. Adding to the excitement, the island is set to open its newest $30 million boutique hotel, The Sundays, in Autumn 2025, further cementing Hamilton Island’s reputation as a premier luxury getaway.

The Whitsunday Islands are a group of 74 islands nestled between the Queensland coast and the Great Barrier Reef, each offering pristine beaches, lush vegetation, and crystal-clear waters. Whitehaven Beach, with its seven kilometers of soft silica sand and turquoise waters, is often ranked among the world’s most beautiful beaches.
The region is a playground for water-based adventures, from sailing and snorkelling to scuba diving among vibrant coral reefs. The marine biodiversity is exceptional, allowing visitors to witness colourful reef fish, turtles, and even dolphins in their natural habitat. Inland, walking trails through the islands’ tropical bushland reveal breathtaking vistas and native wildlife, providing a perfect complement to the aquatic adventures.

Constructing a championship golf course on Dent Island presented unique environmental challenges, as the area is part of a national park within the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. The development required extensive environmental assessments, including 24 detailed impact statements covering vegetation, water quality, wildlife protection, and reef conservation.
Hamilton Island Golf Club’s commitment to sustainability ensures that the course coexists harmoniously with its natural surroundings. Water management practices, minimal disturbance to native flora and fauna, and eco-conscious maintenance strategies make this course a model of responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.

Hamilton Island Golf Club offers more than just a round of golf; it provides an immersive experience where nature, luxury, and sport converge. Whether you are a dedicated golfer seeking a world-class course or a traveller eager to explore the idyllic Whitsundays, this destination promises memories that linger long after the final putt. From the challenging fairways of Dent Island to the turquoise waters and white sands of nearby beaches, Hamilton Island is a true gem of Australia’s tropical paradise.
