Our team met with Javier Insula, general director at Making Golf Group. The group includes: Retamares Golf Club, Senorio de Illescas Golf Club, El Robledal Golf Club and Alicante Golf. After more than 20 years in the golf industry, Javier has a good insight of what is next for Making Golf Group.

To start, how did you first get into golf?

I first got into golf through my father when I was 7 years old.

What makes Madrid a great city to plan a weekend golf trip?

Madrid has many other attractions, great restaurants, museums, monuments and the Real Madrid football club.

What makes your golf club stand out from others in Madrid?

Retamares Golf Club is the only Championship course designed by José María Olazabal in Madrid with 28 premium boutique suites.

How do you see the golf industry evolve in the next 10 years?

Hopefully, the industry and its processes will become more professional.

Your 3 favorite golf courses in the world?

My three favorite courses are: St. Andrews Old Course, Pebble Beach and Bogotá Country Club.

If you could only play one course for the rest of your life, which would it be and why?

St. Andrews Old Course because it is golf at its natural state.

Your favorite golf destination and why?

USA because of the great variety of golf courses and varied sources of entertainment.

Your favorite pro on tour and why?

Although he is not with us, I would have to say Seve Ballesteros. Indeed, he was the first truly global player and great visionary when it came to trends in tourism and the golf industry.
