Where to Travel for Golf in Europe This Spring: Top 5 Destinations
During this week’s interview, we had a nice chat with Miklós Breitner, CEO of Golf Business Monitor a blog highlighting the latest trends in the golf industry. Find out more about Miklós’ passion for golf and his golf by night experience.
1. ABOUT GOLF
To start, can you tell us how you first got into golf?
In 1987, one of my Finnish friends invited me to play golf in Helsinki. I think it was the Helsinki Golf Club. This is where I had my very first golf lesson. The pro and I mixed many languages (Finnish, Hungarian and English) to communicate with each other. Somehow, he managed to teach me the basics and I enjoyed it a lot. Unfortunately, when I returned from this summer holiday I couldn’t practice anymore as golf was banned in Hungary which was not the case in the Czech Republic. So I had to wait a couple of years…
What would make golf more fun?
Golf should be more about the game and less about the appearance. It would also be more fun if I could choose the number of holes and the holes I would like to play. Finally, technology would benefit golf clubs a lot. Too little golf clubs pay attention to mobile-friendly websites to facilitate tee-time bookings.
Your funniest golf experience?
Playing golf by night at the Montgomerie Royal-Maxx Golf Club in Antalya, Turkey. We started to play at 6pm and when we arrived on the 18th hole, we could hardly see anything because of the fog. We just heard the noise of the fountains and saw the some light coming from the clubhouse. I didn’t have a rangefinder nor my mobile phone to check the yardage. I don’t blame myself for this double-bogey.
Your top 3 golf destinations?
Dubai, Marrakech and Costa Daurada.
Your 3 favorite courses?
Aisle course – Turnberry, Montgomerie Royal-Maxx Golf Club and PGA Catalunya Resort.
What is the golf flight of your dreams?
Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson and Tiger Woods.
