Scottie Scheffler’s Winning WITB at the 2026 American Express

Chris Gotterup’s win at the 2026 WM Phoenix Open was one for the books — a thrilling finish at TPC Scottsdale that showcased not only a stunning performance down the stretch but also the precise mix of clubs that helped him get the job done. Gotterup fired a scintillating final round, closing with five birdies in his last six holes to force sudden death and then drained a clutch birdie on the first playoff hole to edge Hideki Matsuyama and lift the champion’s trophy in front of one of golf’s most electric crowds.

At the heart of his victory was a finely tuned set of equipment that balanced power, precision, and touch. In his bag at Scottsdale was the Ping G440 LST driver — configured low-spin for maximum control and distance — along with a TaylorMade BRNR Mini 3-wood and TaylorMade Qi35 5-wood to attack the course’s demanding fairways and tricky approaches. Gotterup leaned on Bridgestone 220 MB irons for his mid-iron play and a quartet of TaylorMade Milled Grind 5 wedges to navigate scoring opportunities around the green, while his TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter sealed the deal when it mattered most.

This Phoenix Open triumph marked Gotterup’s second victory of the 2026 season — following his win at the Sony Open in Hawaii — and his fourth PGA Tour title overall, underscoring the steady momentum he’s built over the past few seasons. From long-bombing tee shots to sharp iron play and clutch putting, Gotterup’s performance in Scottsdale blends club-head prowess with growing competitive poise, painting the picture of a player truly coming into his own on golf’s biggest stages.
