The Els Club Vilamoura: Golfing Grandeur in the Algarve

Thriston Lawrence staged a stunning comeback in the Swiss Alps to capture his second Omega European Masters title, proving once again why Crans-sur-Sierre is one of his favourite hunting grounds. After opening his final round with three bogeys, the South African reignited his charge with a blistering eagle at the par-4 6th and followed it up with a flurry of birdies that carried him to a 22-under total. A closing 66 was enough to hold off a strong chasing pack and secure a two-stroke victory, etching another memorable chapter into the storied tournament.

While the spotlight naturally falls on his fearless play, the tools in Lawrence’s hands played a pivotal role in the triumph. From the reliability of his Ping G440 MAX driver that set up scoring opportunities, to the sharp precision of his Blueprint S irons, and the control offered by his s159 wedges, every club seemed to deliver when it mattered most. Anchoring it all was his custom Ping PLD Oslo putter, which calmly rolled in the birdies that swung momentum back in his favour. A full-Ping setup paired with a Titleist Pro V1 ball gave Lawrence the consistency he needed to attack the course under pressure.

At just 28 years old, Lawrence has already built an impressive résumé on the DP World Tour. A two-time South African Amateur champion, he first broke through at the Joburg Open in 2021 — the first event of the DP World Tour era — before capturing Rookie of the Year honours in 2022. Since then, he’s added wins at the Investec South African Open, the BMW International Open, and now a second crown in Crans-Montana. With five DP World Tour titles to his name, his latest Alpine victory underscores a growing reputation: a resilient competitor with the skill and mentality to shine on the biggest stages. And now, we’ll take a closer look at the clubs he used to make it happen.
