Most challenging golf courses in Europe
The family-friendly resort of Wild Coast Sun, along South Africa‘s stunning Eastern Cape by the Indian Ocean, offers excellent accommodation, a stunning spa, a world famous waterpark, and a championship golf course designed by the great Robert Trent Jones Jr.
Located next to the charming resort town of Port Edward, the resort is less than a two hour drive from Durban’s King Shaka International airport.
The resort’s Wild Coast Sun Country Club is an 18-hole, par-70 championship coastal course that has been draped respectfully across the local topography with incredible ocean views and immaculate greens and fairways. The course is played over hills, ravines, rivers, dams and waterfalls making it a challenge for both professionals and amateurs.
The signature 16th hole is a risk-reward par-five, with water both left and right, while the 18th, with the Indian Ocean as its backdrop, is a great closing hole. We rate this course as the 15th best in all of South Africa. It’s golf cart compulsory and there’s a driving range, putting green, a pro shop and a players lounge and restaurant.
This family-friendly resort along the unspoiled beaches of the Eastern Cape offers premium accommodation. Each of the 390 rooms and suites enjoy superb views. You can soak up vistas of the Indian Ocean from your sea-facing room, or look out over the rolling greens of the golf resort from your garden-facing suite. The rooms are tastefully furnished and designed to provide the ultimate in seaside comfort.
There is a great variety of cuisines to be found at Wild Coast Sun’s restaurants and bars. You can grab a quick bite at one of the fast food stores or indulge in a meal with an Indian Ocean backdrop at the various sit-down restaurants, suited to cater for every taste and occasion. Cuisines range from Chinese and sushi to a South African carvery, and there’s everything from casual to smart dining.
The resort’s Mangwanani Spa offers the ultimate escape for those looking for a little relaxation. Using the finest African-inspired ingredients and designed with peace and tranquillity in mind, every therapy is designed to restore body and mind in a blissful environment. There’s even a kids spa, too.
The Wild Coast casino offers 19 table games including blackjack, roulette and poker, and slot machines operated by secure and efficient smart card technology. Beverages are served at the Calypso and Coral Bars, situated on the casino floors.
Home to some of the world’s best water rides, Wild Waves Water Park at Wild Coast Sun offers thrill-seekers a wide selection of adrenalin-pumping slides including the Aqualoop, Superbowl, Boomerango and two steep body slides. Designed to international aquatic park standards, there’s also a designated children’s area, while those looking for a little relaxation can drift along the Lazy River.
The resort also offers fishing and river boating, as well as scuba diving in the Indian Ocean and surfing. There’s a gym and a lovely outdoor swimming pool. Guests can also experience South Africa’s natural beauty by taking a trip to the nearby Umtamvuna nature reserve, the Petrified Forest or the Oribi Gorge.
Weve been there. Love to go again
