Let’s take a look in the bag of new Sanderson Farms Championship winner Sergio Garcia. His win in Mississippi was his first on the PGA Tour since the 2017 Masters.
The mercurial Spaniard split with TaylorMade in 2017 after 15 years with the brand, before signing with Callaway in 2018. He then split with Callaway in January this year and the 40-year-old has since been playing with a selection of new clubs.
TaylorMade SIM (9 degrees)
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 7 X
Garcia had been using the Ping G410 LST after reaching out to the manufacturer at the start of the year in a bid to regain the form that has taken him to 35 worldwide wins. But he then made what proved to be a successful decision to switch to the TaylorMade SIM.
TaylorMade SIM Rocket 3 (14 degrees @ 14.5 degrees)
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 7 X
Then Garcia has put two new TaylorMade fairway woods in the bag.
For the new SIM Fairway Woods, TaylorMade reincarnated their classic V Steel Sole Design to help with better turf interaction and versatility, and added Twist Face which utilises corrective face angles to straighten ball flights on off-centre hits.
TaylorMade SIM Titanium (19 degrees @ 18.5)
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 8 X
Ping Blueprint (3-PW)
Shafts: Nippon NS Pro Modus 3 Tour 130 X
Garcia played with Callaway Apex MB irons last year, and then a set of TaylorMade P7MBs. He is now using Ping Blueprint irons from 3-iron to pitching wedge.
Titleist Vokey SM8 (52 degrees & 58 degrees)
Shafts: Nippon NS Pro Modus3 Tour 130 X
He then has a couple of Titleist Vokey SM8 wedges with 52 and 58 degrees of loft. He had been using Ping Glide Forged wedges.
The Titleist Vokey SM8 wedges feature a centre of gravity that is pushed forward from the face, through the use of high density tungsten, producing a more consistent, pure strike that helps you hit your target more often.
TaylorMade Spider X
Grip: SuperStroke Tour
Putting has never been Garcia’s strong suit, but he is now using a TaylorMade Spider X and seems to have found some form with it. In Mississippi he admitted to practising his putting with his eyes closed.
TaylorMade TP5
He’s also gone TaylorMade for his ball after using the Titleist Pro V1.
