At All Square, we are on a mission to bring you closer to golf than ever before. We strive to give our golfing community access to the biggest names in the sport. To this end, we are very excited to announce that the Belgian trio of Colsaerts, Pieters and Detry have joined All Square to share insights into their world of golf.
We previously published a post comparing Pieters and Detry. Now it is time to look at all three of Belgium’s top golfers.
With Tiger Woods and all three of the Belgian players teeing it up at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai this week we thought we should share the exciting news with you!
Belgium has soared to prominence as a golfing nation in recent years. Nicolas Colsaerts was first on the scene. The ‘Belgian Bomber’ became big news on the European Tour around 2010. He was a member of the 2012 ‘Miracle at Medinah’ Ryder Cup team where Captain Olazabal took him as a pick.
2016 ended on a high note for Nico as he finished T4 at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. He’s looking to regain some of his great form in 2017. When Colsaerts plays, there is always fireworks!

The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, featured no representation by Belgium, but 2016 would bring something special. Thomas Pieters received a pick from Captain Clarke for Hazeltine. He was one of six rookies to make the team. He made a mockery of the term ‘rookie’ however.
With the best debut performance by a European in Ryder Cup history, Pieters took four points out of five. He also won more points than anyone else in the event that week. Thomas Pieters was undoubtedly one of the best players in Europe last season. 2017 looks to be an exciting year as Pieters aims to build on his success from 2015 and 2016.

Now in 2017 we have a third member of the Belgian contingent of the European Tour. Thomas Detry, a college teammate of Pieters, gained his European Tour card from the Challenge Tour. Detry is an incredible prospect. In 2016 he won the Bridgestone Challenge at Heythrop Park by a record 12 shots, the highest margin in Challenge Tour history, and equaled the lowest under par total (-29).
He has already started the 2017 European Tour season well with a 3rd place finish at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. In his first season on the European Tour he will be looking to establish himself as a contender. Do not be surprised if Detry gets a win this year. He is definitely a contender for rookie of the year.

The future of Belgian golf is in great hands with these three players. All have represented their country in the Eisenhower Trophy in the past and two of them have already played in the Ryder Cup. There are more than 80 golf courses in Belgium and close to 60,00 golfers play the game. An exciting new golf course project near Brussels is currently under construction. This new development is being built with the ambition of adding a Belgian Open to the European Tour calendar that will most probably be an interesting venue for the Belgian trio.
