Hungary may not be synonymous with great golf courses but with the opening of the Zala Springs Golf Resort that may be about to change. Located close to the spa town of Hévíz and the beautiful Lake Balaton, the course opened to much acclaim in September 2015. As part of IMG Prestige and the World of Leading Golf, this is a course with great pedigree and one not to miss.
Zala Springs architect, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. needs little introduction. The renowned designer boasts Chambers Bay and Spanish Bay among his substantial portfolio. His first design in Hungary offers everything you’d expect from a signature RTJII course. Aesthetically-pleasing holes which place a premium on strategy, without losing their element of fun.
Set in the rolling vineyards of the Zala Valley, the course is without doubt the best-conditioned in Hungary, if not Eastern Europe. Stretching a hefty 6351m from the back tees, the par-72 has been designed with championship golf in mind. Nonetheless with four tee offerings it is accessible to beginners and professionals alike.
With lakes and streams coming into play on several holes, golfers need leave their errant shots on the range, while the fast-paced greens ensure that only those with well-honed short games will reach the nineteenth with their scorecard intact. Luckily the resort’s state-of-the-art clubhouse is there to welcome all and has won high praise for its top-notch cuisine.
Much like the golf course, the real estate at Zala Springs Resort has been designed to the highest standard. With innovative and luxurious design, the properties will impress those with a discerning taste.
From studio apartments to 4 bedroom properties for families, there is something for everyone here. The apartments boast great views of the golf course and the lake making you want to get back out there to play the course again! The properties are now available and they have already sold the first one in the last couple of weeks.
Located within easy reach of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, nearby Hévíz is home to Gyógy-tó, the World’s largest biologically-active natural thermal lake. Golfers should be sure not to leave without taking a dip in its therapeutic waters. You can wash off a bad round in water that averages 33°C even in the depth of winter.
Meanwhile nearby Lake Balaton, the largest freshwater lake in Europe, is well-known for its beaches and sailing opportunities. For those wishing to venture a little further, Hungary’s beautiful capital of Budapest lies in wait. Just a two-hour drive from the resort, the city is arguably the most beautiful in Eastern Europe. Do not miss the host of cultural treats the city offers visitors to enjoy.
Those looking for a transnational golfing adventure should earmark Slovenia’s Golf Club Grad Mokrice and Austria’s jaw-dropping Adamstal Golf Club on their travel list. Zala Springs Resort is just 10 minutes from Hévíz International Airport.
