TaylorMade has released its new special-edition golf bag for The Open, following on from their previous designs for the Masters, US PGA and US Open championships. They could make a great investment.
The special-edition 149th “British Open Golf Bag” was used by TaylorMade staffers Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre and Sergio Garcia.
The famous links course in Kent, England, known by locals as ‘Sandwich’, was the inspiration for TaylorMade’s design for their commemorative bag. The venue’s historic starter’s hut is a wooden structure with a straw roof, and on the bag debossed planks on the side panelling represent the wood, while a brown textured upper the straw. The weathervane and clock signify the hut’s main fixtures, and clock hands are set to 8pm for the curfew bell that rings daily from St Peter’s Church. The interior fabric pays homage to the tournament displaying the Roman numeral “149” inside a cheese sandwich, to denote the colloquial name for the golf course.
It has typical staff bag features, with a traditional 6-way top measuring 9.5″ x 11″ and a total of 12 pockets. These pockets include 2 velour-lined valuables, 2 garment pockets, 2 hard shell protective accessories pockets, and a dual insulated cooler pocket. The bag also comes with a matching rain hood, 3 point shoulder strap, umbrella sleeve, and metal hardware, and towel clip. The bag is priced by TaylorMade at £529.
Like the “British Open Golf Bag”, TaylorMade’s other special-edition golf bags have standard features typical of a TaylorMade staff bag and are priced by TaylorMade at the same £529. All are available now.
Earlier this year, TaylorMade released the “Season Opener Staff Bag” prior to the Masters, the first major tournament of the season. The bag draws inspiration from the white caddie jumpsuits that are an iconic symbol of Augusta National club. The bags feature an all-white body with the tournament’s signature green colour. A message on the upper reads “Hello Patrons” for the return of spectators following Covid-19 restrictions. Highway 1 adorns the bag handle, which is the city of Augusta’s main road. A Flowering Peach sits on the valuables pouch, in honour of hole No. 3.
Then TaylorMade released a special, limited edition “Summer Commemorative Staff Bag” for the US Open at Torrey Pines. The colours are inspired by Southern California sunsets. The retro styling of the bag features an alternative font, boldly positioned on the side panels, as well as an old TaylorMade logo on the faux umbrella pocket. The valuables has a Torrey Pine, the tree that’s native to the golf course.
Next, the golf brand released the special-edition “Pro Championship Staff Bag” for the US PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. The blue colour and wave-like texture are inspired by the venue, which sits adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean in South Carolina. An outline of the state rests on the upper part of the bag and is segmented by regional BBQ influences. A pineapple Metal T logo on the valuables pouch signifies hospitality and the state’s association with the fruit. Two raindrops on the upper pocket honour the course’s late architects, Pete and Alice Dye.
