Will Zalatoris dramatically won his first PGA Tour title, beating Sepp Straka in a play-off to win the FedEx St Jude Championship. Here’s the clubs he used to get the job done.
Zalatoris and Straka finished in a tie on 15-under after 72 holes, and could not be separated after two play-off holes at the 18th at TPC Southwind.
They then went to the par-3 11th, where Straka went into the water off the tee while Zalatoris’ tee shot ended on a brick wall above the hazard. Zalatoris took a drop and pitched to seven feet before making a winning bogey putt, with Straka only managing to make the green in four.
Zalatoris used the TSR3 model from the new Titleist TSR range of drivers that Cameron Smith also used to win The Open Championship at St Andrews. It served him well, averaging 321 yards off the tee for the week, which was third in driving distance across the field.
The American also uses the new range for his fairway wood, with his TSR2 carrying a loft of 13°. For his irons, the 25-year-old mixes a T200 utility iron with the cavity back T100 irons. He hit 51 of 72 greens in regulation, gaining more than eight strokes on the field.
His wedge play was good all week, and he used his Titleist Vokey Design Wedge Works 60-degree wedge from the drop area on the third and final play-off hole, a key shot on his way to victory.
Scotty Cameron congratulated Zalatoris on Twitter after he used the brand’s Circle T Phantom X T-11 Proto, an oversized arm-lock style mallet, to make some serious clutch putts in the play-off. It was his best strokes gained putting at any tournament all season. Finally, this was 27 victories from 35 PGA Tour events in 2022 for Titleist golf balls.
