Golf Trip to Agadir: Swinging Under the Moroccan Sun

Gran Canaria is a great option for year-round sunny golf with spectacular desert and volcanic courses and 5-star resorts offering golf at multiple venues. Here’s our quick tour.
The third largest of the Canary Islands, located off the Atlantic coast of Northwest Africa, enjoys a superb climate for golf. Temperatures rarely drop below an average of 24°C throughout the year and there’s plenty of sun.

One of the best resorts is Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity, in the south of the island near the lively resort town of Maspalomas which has a wide range of restaurants, bars, and cafes and the beaches at Playa de Meloneras and Playa del Ingles.
Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity is a 5-star haven for golfers, surrounded by an 18-hole and 9-hole course in a beautiful natural setting. The hotel’s New and Old Courses merged in 2022 to form three different loops of nine to offer golf of great variation. These desert style layouts are adorned with giant cacti, volcanic rock, palm trees and mountain views. The Old Course hosted the Spanish PGA in 2006. The excellent golf facilities extend to a golf academy, driving range and coaching using trackman swing technology.

The hotel was renovated in 2023 and has over 300 rooms and deluxe suites with a modern Mediterranean feel with terraces offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and golf courses. There’s a free shuttle service to the nearby Meloneras Beach.

There’s three restaurants offering a wide range of international and local dishes as well as al fresco dining and three bars including a pool bar. For more indulgence, the Be Aloe Wellness Centre offers a wide selection of treatments and an oxygen therapy cabin. There’s also a fully equipped gym.

Guests lucky enough to stay here can enjoy golf at not only the two resident courses but also at Anfi Tauro, Meloneras Golf and Real Club de Golf Las Palmas. Anfi Tauro is less than 10km away and fully opened in 2007. It’s an incredible layout with elevated tees set against a backdrop of volcanic mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a must-play courses on the island.

Meloneras Golf is around 10km south of Salobre Hotel, another incredibly scenic course with fairways laid across the clifftops overlooking Pasito Blanco marina. If you fancy dramatic golf with unbelievable views and tee shots over cliffs, then this is the course for you.

Real Club de Golf Las Palmas is further north and is one of Spain’s oldest golf clubs. It’s got narrow tree-lined fairways, deep ravines and small greens set alongside a volcanic crater. It’s well worth the journey for the gorgeous views alone.

Another golf course not to be missed is Maspalomas Golf, just a few minutes from Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity. It sits next to the resort of Playa del Ingles in a landscape of undulating sand dunes by the coastline. Water comes into play on several holes to offer challenging tee shots and the conditioning is superb, surrounded by tropical vegetation. The sea views are lovely and there’s a practice course, putting and pitching green, driving range, golf carts, golf shop, restaurant and snack bar. It’s a typically great day of golf this island is famous for.
