Battle on the Fairways: The Greatest Rivalries in Golf History

Nick Dunlap won’t see any of The American Express $1.5m prize money after becoming the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since Phil Mickelson in 1991. Here’s the clubs he used.
The 20-year-old holed a six-foot par putt on the last to claim the title by one stroke from Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who gets the entire winner’s cheque because of Dunlap’s amateur status.
The American said: “Whether I made or missed that, if you had told me come Wednesday night that I had a putt to win this tournament, I wouldn’t have believed you.”
His victory at La Quinta’s Pete Dye-designed Stadium course came after he missed the cut in his three previous events on the PGA Tour. He now has a two-year exemption as well as entry to the Masters, the US PGA Championship and The Players Championship.
Mickelson, who won the 1991 Northern Telecom Open as an amateur, posted on X: “Such an impressive performance by Nick Dunlap. Congratulations on an incredible win.”

Dunlap’s bag is full of clubs from multiple brands, including the TaylorMade Qi10 LS driver, currently used by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.
