Get ready! The 2019 Presidents Cup between Team USA and Team International is almost upon us. Let’s meet the players from Ernie’s Team International.
The 2019 Presidents Cup will be held at Royal Melbourne Golf Club from 12-15 December 2019. It will be the 13th edition of the competition between Team USA and Team International.
The Presidents Cup is played every two years and pits the United States team against the International team. The International team is comprised of golfers from outside Europe.
The US team is the defending champion, having won the 2017 tournament 19-11. The US leads the series with 10 wins, one draw and one defeat. Royal Melbourne has previously hosted the tournament in 1998, at which the International team had their only victory, and 2011.
The Presidents Cup uses a four-day, 34-match format that includes sessions of foursomes, fourball and singles match play.
Team USA: The top eight players on the FedEx Cup point list are automatic qualifiers; the American captain adds four captain’s picks.
Team International: The top eight players from the Official World Golf Ranking are automatic qualifiers; the International captain adds four captain’s picks.
Captain Ernie Els has named Australian Jason Day as one of his four wildcard picks for the Presidents Cup in Melbourne. South African Els also picked Adam Hadwin, Sungjae Im and Joaquin Niemann in his 12-strong team to face the United States.
The rest of the International team is Marc Leishman, Hideki Matsuyama, Louis Oosthuizen, Adam Scott, Abraham Ancer, Li Haotong, Cheng-tsung Pan and Cameron Smith.
