Best Golf Equipment for Beginners in 2025
Let’s take a look in the golf bag of Dustin Johnson, who clinched the 2020 FedEx Cup after winning the Tour Championship at East Lake. The 36-year-old carded a final round 68 to claim the $15m jackpot by three strokes.
The American has been a TaylorMade staffer since he turned professional in 2007. The 2016 US Open champion said: “I chose TaylorMade because they made products that outperformed anything else I had ever played.”
TaylorMade SIM (10.5 degrees)
Shaft: Fujikura Speeder 661 X
Johnson, known as DJ on Tour, switched between the TaylorMade M5 and M6 in 2019 but for 2020 he has been using the new TaylorMade SIM Max driver. Though for the Tour Championship he reverted back to the SIM. He used the Max at the Travelers Championship, which he won back in June.
TaylorMade SIM Max (15, 21 degrees)
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 9X (42.75 inches, 59.5, D4), Project X HZRDUS Black 95 6.5
DJ did put a hybrid in the bag at the Travelers, the TaylorMade SIM Max Rescue, but opted to not carry one at the Tour Championship. Speaking to the PGA Tour ahead of the Travelers, he said: “I’m actually going to play a rescue club which I never thought would happen. I’ve been hitting it the last few days. I hit it quite nicely. We’ll give it a run for a little while.”
TaylorMade P730 DJ Proto (3-PW)
Shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
DJ carries a full set of the TaylorMade P730 DJ Proto irons from 4-iron down to pitching wedge. These clubs are fitted with True Temper X100 shafts, the shaft he has used in his irons going back to his junior days.
TaylorMade Milled Grind (52, 60 degrees), MG High-Toe (64 degrees)
Shafts: KBS Tour 120 S Black shafts
DJ then has two Milled Grind wedges with 52 (bent to 54) and 60 degrees of loft. He also occasionally carries a TaylorMade Milled Grind Hi-Toe wedge with 64 degrees of loft.
TaylorMade Spider Limited Itsy Bitsy
DJ has used a TaylorMade Spider Mini, a TaylorMade Truss TM1, and also a Truss TB1 this season. Currently he is using a TaylorMade Spider Limited Itsy Bitsy.
