Xander Schauffele: What’s In The Bag

Let’s find out what equipment Xander Schauffele is putting in his golf bag. The American is still only 26 but already has four PGA Tour titles to his name, including the 2017 Tour Championship and the 2018 WGC-HSBC Champions.

Schauffele switched equipment manufacturers, joining team Callaway from TaylorMade in January 2018. “I’m really confident in how their equipment will help improve every part of my game,” he said.

Driver

Schauffele had been using Callaway’s Epic Flash driver, but he has since put the new Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero in the bag. He gave the club a ringing endorsement after trying it out, saying: “From the minute we tested it, I knew 2020 couldn’t get here soon enough.”

He is averaging 306 yards from the tee this season, placing him 31st on the PGA Tour in terms of distance.

3-Wood

Earlier this summer Schauffele changed his fairway wood choices. He was using two Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero models, but it looks like he has gone back to Rogue Sub Zeros.

For his regular setup, the 3-wood is the only one of the two that always stays in the bag. The 5-wood makes an appearance depending on course and conditions. A Mizuno MP-20 HMB utility iron has been seen in his bag in the past, but that may have been a fleeting experiment.

Irons

For his irons, Schauffele uses the 2019 Callaway Apex Pro from 4 iron down to pitching wedge. They seem to be working well as he is currently 11th on the PGA Tour in greens in regulation.

Callaway designed these irons for extremely soft feel, long, consistent distance with playability, and optimum ball flight and control.

Wedges

Schauffele has a Callaway Mack Daddy 5 gap wedge in 52 degrees, and then his sand wedge and lob wedge (56 and 60 degrees) are a Titleist Vokey SM6 and Titleist Vokey SM8 WedgeWorks prototype.

Roger Cleveland, Callaway’s chief designer, said: “The spin you get from the JAWS Groove is remarkable. It’s all about the trajectory and control from the added spin. JAWS is absolutely the perfect name.”
