Let’s take a look at the clubs Cameron Smith used to score a magnificent bogey-free eight-under-par 64 to win the 150th Open at St Andrews.
The 28-year-old came from four shots back to finish on 20-under and had to roll in a three-foot birdie putt at the last to avoid a play-off with American Cameron Young, who finished a shot back in second. McIlroy finished in third on 18-under.
The Australian didn’t read the script at the Home of Golf and denied a British winner in McIlroy after he caught and overtook the Northern Irishman with five consecutive birdies after the turn.
Smith is a Titleist staffer and has been for the entirety of his professional career, and used the brand’s new TSR3 driver to claim his first major win. He had been using a TSR2 driver but switched to the TSR3 for the Open.
The TSR3, launched earlier in 2022, is more like his previous TSi3 and is the most adjustable driver in the three-model range with a moveable weight in the back of the head.
Moving to the irons, Smith has a black set of the 2021 Titleist T100s, which he says reduces glare. He also used a Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 3-iron, which came into great effect at the Open.
For his putter, which proved so devastating in the final round, he used a Scotty Cameron 009M Prototype, having previously used a Scotty Cameron Futura 5W putter and a Scotty Cameron T-11.5 prototype.
Finally, he uses the iconic Titleist Pro V1x ball, the most successful ball in golf in terms of professional wins.
