Patrick Cantlay successfully defended his title at the BMW Championship with a one-shot victory at Wilmington Country Club. Let’s take a look in his golf bag.
The world No 4 posted a two-under 69 to see him finish a shot clear of Scott Stallings. The win lifted him to second in the FedExCup standings behind world No 1 Scottie Scheffler heading into the season-ending Tour Championship, which he won 12 months ago.
Cantlay is a Titleist staffer and carries a full bag of the brand’s clubs. He had been using the 917D2 driver and was one of only a few Titleist staffers not to switch to the newer TS models when they came out. But he has now changed to the TS3 with 9.5 degrees of loft.
Moving down the bag, he still uses the Titleist 915F model for his 3-wood at 15 degrees, which made its first appearance on Tour all the way back in 2014. He then carries a Titleist TS2 5-wood with 21 degrees of loft.
For his irons, he’s got a set of 718 AP2s from 4-iron down to pitching wedge after briefly using the newer T100s. The 718 AP2s date back to 2017 and feature internal tungsten weights which provide increased forgiveness and stability. Cantlay hit 13 of 18 greens in regulation Sunday and ranked seventh in SG/approach for the week.
In terms of his wedges, he goes for the popular Titleist Vokey Design SM7 and SM9. For his putter, Cantlay had been using a Newport blade player but in 2021 changed to a Phantom X 5 mallet design.
He then uses a Titleist Pro V1x golf ball. This is lower spinning compared to the Pro V1, providing a little more distance. Titleist golf balls have now got 28 wins from 36 events on Tour this season.
