Nicolai Hojgaard held off Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland to claim victory at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship. It was also a good day for Callaway.
The talented 22-year-old produced five consecutive birdies from the 13th to card an eight-under 64 to finish at 21 under at Jumeirah Golf Estates’ Earth Course in Dubai.
His Ryder Cup team mates Fleetwood and Hovland along with Matt Wallace all tied-second on 19 under, with defending champion Jon Rahm sharing fifth on 17 under and Race to Dubai winner Rory McIlroy in tied 22nd on 10 under.
Hojgaard’s win is his first on the DP World Tour since February 2022 and also his maiden Rolex Series win, which also sees him finish second in the season-long Race to Dubai standings behind McIlroy. The Dane is also now off to the PGA Tour in 2024, having earned enough non-member FedEx Cup points.
Nicolai Hojgaard had signed with TaylorMade in 2019 but changed to Callaway at the beginning of 2023.
The key shot of his brilliant back nine came at the 480-yard par-4 16th, where he hit his tee shot 379 yards with a ball speed of 190mph using his Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond. The resulting birdie took him to the outright lead which he never relinquished.
He was even more impressive with his Callaway Apex MB irons, hitting 17 of 18 greens in regulation, while his 1.6 putts per green in regulation came with his Odyssey O-Works Jailbird Mini Putter. He also used a Callaway Chrome Soft X Triple Track golf ball which he has had in play the entire 2023 DP World Tour season.
