Orlando is one of the most visited cities in the US and is surrounded by many quality golf courses. Home to the PGA Merchandise Show, Orlando is the adopted home of many of the world’s best golfers, including Arnold Palmer, Annika Sorenstam, Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson just to name a few. With year-round sunshine, the hardest thing about visiting may well be deciding which of the 150 courses to play. Synonymous with Walt Disney World resort, visitors will be spoilt for choice both on and off the course, with amusement parks, shopping malls, and dining options galore. With public, private, and resort courses, as well as TopGolf, golfers will find a layout to suit all ages and abilities.
At All Square, we want to make it easy for you, so here’s a list of our top recommendations. Feel free to get in touch with our team to plan and book your trip to the Orlando area at the best rates: info@allsquaregolf.com
Isleworth is best known as Lake Nona’s competitor in the Tavistock Cup, the annually televised event match-up between the two communities. Just a mile from Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill, the resort is bestowed a tranquil setting in the heart of the lakes. The luxurious villas that line the fairways are home to some of the world’s most famous PGA Tour pros.
Located in the heart of the 17-square-mile Lake Nona community, this Tom Fazio gem is consistently ranked among the top courses in Florida. Enjoying a glorious lakeside setting, Lake Nona is one of the most exclusive gated complexes in the US and has been the home of Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson for many years. If you ever get an invite to play this exquisite layout, take it. The opportunity doesn’t come around all too often.
Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer have all put their name to a design at Reunion. The Watson layout is often considered to be the finest of the three courses. With bold expansive bunkering featuring throughout, it’s certainly a course you are unlikely to forget.
Panther Lake provides great variety and several shot-making opportunities. The variety in design is evident in the way no two holes play alike, with each as distinct and memorable as the last. The only quality these holes have in common is that each shot demands good thinking and precise execution.
There’s no getting around the fact that the International course at ChampionsGate is one of the hardest layouts in Florida. In fact, measuring 7,363 yards from the Championship black tee and with the highest course rating in the state, 76.8, it may well be one of the most challenging courses in America. Nonetheless, this links-style course is a great test, and a must play for golfers visiting the area.
Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the New course is located just a few miles from Walt Disney World Resort. The links-style layout has been built as a tribute to the Home of Golf and as a result, golfers will find minimal trees, pot bunkers, and even the odd stonewall.
Great courses surrounded by top facilities to make your stay even sweeter at these resorts:
This Floridian golf complex features three world-class courses, including two layouts, the Red and Blue, which are ranked among the Top 100 courses in the United States. With spectacular elevation changes, all three courses appear to have been moulded by mother nature herself. There is also fantastic on and off-site facilities, including luxury accommodation.
Anyone serious about their game should look no further than Tranquilo Golf Club. This Four Seasons resort is home to an unrivaled 16 acre, 2.5 million practice facility. Host to the 2018 Diamond Resorts Invitational, which features PGA and LPGA Tour pros, as well as plenty of celebrity guests, there is also a recently re-developed Tom Fazio designed layout.
Home to the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard, Bay Hill will forever be associated with the legendary golfer. Long considered to be one of the best courses in Florida, Bay Hill offers four sets of tees from 5,143 to 7,381 yards. Bay Hill’s quartet of par-3’s are among the toughest short holes on Tour, with the 18th hole regularly regarded as one of the most difficult finishing holes on the circuit.
Grand Lakes offers an experience like no other in Florida. Greg Norman placed great emphasis on the natural eco-system when re-designing the layout. As a result, golfers will find a breath-takingly natural course enhanced with thriving ponds, wetlands, live oaks, and cypress heads.
When it comes to your next golf vacation, finding the right places to eat is nearly as important as choosing the best courses to play. Make sure not to go home without tucking into this tasty fare…
