Golf in Rome: Where History Meets Championship Fairways

Golf and Royalty go together like a hand in a glove. Now there is a new addition to a grand group of prestigious clubs and courses, nestling in the Siena Hills of Tuscany, the remarkable Royal Golf La Bagnaia.

Part of the La Bagnaia Golf Resort and Spa, this Robert Trent Jones Jr classic opened for play in 2009 and has echoes of many of the great links courses of the world and is also reminiscent of the spectacular courses of Long Island including National Golf Links and Shinnecock Hills.
This spectacular golf course in a serene setting is a triumph of design where strategy and finesse will win over brute strength. Five large water hazards, deep fescue rough and over 80 strategically placed bunkers will test accuracy from the tee, whilst relatively generous fairways will enable all levels of golfer to navigate their way around the links and to enjoy the stunning beauty on offer.
Some holes have as many as seven different tees, allowing for the course to be set up in a wide variety of ways, and encouraging all abilities to play the course.

The facilities away from the course are what you would expect from a destination in the upper echelons of world golf, with magnificent vistas from the stunning clubhouse perched on the hills above the course. Originally a farmhouse, the building has been renovated and turned into a wonderful clubhouse with a bar, restaurant, three lounges, meeting space and private function rooms.

The practice facility is among the very best in Europe, with 60 uncovered bays, a fantastic pitching area and putting green.
In addition, the resort includes the luxurious Buddha Spa by Clarins and a range of facilities for leisure and business travellers including two restaurants and two bars, three swimming pools, 12 treatment rooms and a tennis court.
Recently it was announced that Royal Golf La Bagnaia would become part of the IMG PRESTIGE collection of golf courses, alongside 2018 Ryder Cup venue Le Golf National, London Golf Club, Golf at Goodwood, The Scandinavian, The Dutch, Monte Rei, Trump Turnberry, Finca Cortesin and Royal Bled.
The eyes of the golfing world will be on Italy in 2022 as the Ryder Cup comes to Rome and the Marco Simone Country Club, and as with all Ryder Cup host countries, this presents Italy with an opportunity to shine as a golfing destination. Royal Golf La Bagnaia will be a must play for any visitor to the country in September 2022.
