Aldrich Potgieter’s Breakthrough Win at the 2025 Rocket Classic

Nestled just ten kilometres west of the royal seaside town of Hua Hin, Black Mountain Golf Club is one of Thailand’s premier golfing destinations. Established in 2007 by Swedish entrepreneur Stig Notlöv, the club quickly rose to prominence, transforming a former pineapple plantation into a world-class golf and lifestyle resort. Today, it’s not only celebrated as one of the finest layouts in Asia but also recognised globally.

Designed by Phil Ryan of Pacific Coast Design, Black Mountain features 27 holes divided into three distinct nines: East, North, and West. Stretching over 7,200 yards from the championship tees, the course weaves through dramatic black granite hills, shimmering lakes, and undulating fairways. Water hazards come into play on twelve holes, demanding both strategy and precision, while elevated tees and wide vistas provide memorable shot-making opportunities. Despite its formidable length, the course remains playable for all abilities, with multiple teeing options and well-designed landing zones.

Black Mountain has proven itself on the international stage, hosting major professional events such as the Black Mountain Masters (Asian Tour, 2009–2010), the Royal Trophy (2011), and the True Thailand Classic (European Tour, 2015–2016). These tournaments showcased the course to a worldwide audience and confirmed its place as a premier championship venue. Many professionals have praised the layout for its fairness, conditioning, and visual appeal — qualities that keep attracting top-level competition.

What sets Black Mountain apart is its transformation into a full lifestyle destination. The clubhouse offers panoramic views of the course and surrounding hills, alongside fine dining and a fully stocked pro shop. Practice facilities are state-of-the-art, with a driving range, short-game areas, and a golf academy equipped with TrackMan technology. Families can enjoy the on-site water park, wakeboarding, tennis courts, and spa, making it an ideal retreat for both golfers and non-golfers.

Over the years, Black Mountain has evolved into a vibrant residential hub. Luxury villas, condominiums, and townhouses dot the fairways, attracting an international community of golf enthusiasts and expats. An international school within the estate adds to its family-friendly appeal, making it possible for residents to combine leisure, work, and education in one inspiring location.

Beyond the fairways, the resort enjoys a privileged position near Hua Hin, one of Thailand’s oldest and most charming coastal towns. Known as a favourite retreat of the Thai royal family, Hua Hin blends elegant heritage with modern comforts. Visitors can explore lively night markets, relax on pristine beaches, and savour fresh seafood by the sea. Just a short drive away lie other attractions: the historic Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, the scenic Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, and Chom Dong Villa & Garden — a hidden botanical gem.

Combining championship golf, luxurious living, and a rich cultural setting, Black Mountain Golf Club is more than just a round of golf — it’s a complete experience. Whether you come to test yourself on its challenging fairways, to soak up Hua Hin’s coastal beauty, or to enjoy a family-friendly resort lifestyle, Black Mountain offers a unique blend that few clubs worldwide can match.
