Inside Martin Couvra’s Winning WITB at DP World Tour
Marco Penge claimed his third DP World Tour title of 2025 in dramatic fashion at the Open de España, held at Madrid’s Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. After seeing his four-shot lead disappear on Sunday, the Englishman held his nerve in a sudden-death playoff against Dan Brown, holing a clutch birdie putt on the first extra hole to secure victory at –15. His rounds of 66-67-64-72 highlighted his mix of power, precision, and resilience — especially impressive considering he played part of the final round without a pitching wedge. This win added to earlier triumphs in Hainan and Denmark, confirming his breakout season and earning him coveted spots at both the Masters and The Open Championship.
At just 27, Penge’s rise through the professional ranks has been both determined and inspiring. Having turned pro in 2017, he worked his way up through the Challenge Tour, where two victories in 2023 — including the Rolex Challenge Grand Final — earned him promotion to the DP World Tour. Despite a brief suspension in late 2024 for betting on golf (not involving his own events), Penge returned with renewed focus and maturity. His confident ball-striking, fearless approach, and ability to handle pressure have since defined a remarkable comeback story that has captured the attention of golf fans across Europe.
Throughout the week in Madrid, Penge relied on a setup that perfectly suits his aggressive playing style — a Mizuno driver, TaylorMade mini driver, Mizuno irons, Vokey wedges, a Scotty Cameron putter, and the trusted Titleist Pro V1 ball. Simple, reliable, and perfectly tuned to his strengths, this combination proved the ideal recipe for his Spanish triumph. Let’s take a closer look at all the clubs in detail.
