One of the most prestigious events in the golfing calendar is heading to Finca Cortesin in Spain. Here’s why you should play and stay at what is widely considered the country’s premier golf resort.
The women’s version of the Ryder Cup, the Solheim Cup is a biennial tournament which sees Europe and USA doing battle over three days of competition. Spain will now become the sixth European nation to stage what will be the 18th edition of the tournament.
The 15km stretch of Costa del Sol coastline between the residential resort of Sotogrande and the charming town of Estepona is Spain‘s premier location for golf. The 5-star resort of Finca Cortesin is the jewel in its crown. Visitors lucky enough to stay here are also within a few miles of other world famous courses, like Valderrama and La Reserva Sotogrande.

The main attraction at the resort is the championship-level golf course, designed by renowned architect Cabell Robinson. It’s regarded as one of the top-10 courses in Spain and one of the best in Europe. It has previously staged three Volvo World Match Play Championships, from 2009 to 2012.
The winding, highly manicured layout weaves through a valley of olive trees and it boasts beautiful views from its hilltop position. Expect to take a lot of pictures when you play here! The views of the Casares Mountains are stunning. With natural undulations peppered with over 100 pure white bunkers, it’s a highly entertaining challenge requiring every club in the bag. The course offers 18 distinct holes, while the comprehensive choice of tees will ensure you can enjoy it no matter which level you play at.
Located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, Finca Cortesin is world-renowned as an elite golfing destination. Opened in March 2006 and set across 532 acres, its world-class facilities includes an elegant 67-suite, 5-star boutique hotel, Hotel Cortesin, the state-of-the-art Jack Nicklaus Academy, a beach club, excellent dining, and an award-winning spa featuring Spain’s only snow cave.
The boutique hotel at Finca Cortesin has a traditional Mediterranean-feel with all the contemporary features you would expect. This is a paradise of privacy with high quality luxurious rooms. The junior suites at the hotel have a unique fusion of Spanish and Asian decor and come with their own entrance hallway. The rooms sit nicely around the courtyard too.
The resort has become a food destination in its own right. The highly-acclaimed Japanese fine-dining Kabuki Raw is the hotel’s signature restaurant; there’s also the Don Giovanni Italian restaurant, Mediterranean cuisine at The Beach Club, Spanish flavours at the excellent El Jardin de Lutz, and tapas and cocktails at The Blue Bar. You can also enjoy views of the golf course at the Golf Club Restaurant.
The exclusive Beach Club is another highlight. A short walk from the hotel, it features delightful gardens and Balinese beds and sun loungers which surround a beautiful 35m infinity pool.
The other great facility at Finca Cortesin is the Spa, with one of its highlights being the snow cave. It is the first of its kind in Spain and is an experience like no other, providing the perfect place to cool down after a round of golf in the sun. You’ll also enjoy the indoor heated and salted pool, as well as two outdoor pools.
