What’s in Rory McIlroy’s winning golf bag?

Rory McIlroy defended his RBC Canadian Open title with a brilliant final round 62 to earn his 21st PGA Tour title. Let’s take a look at his club set-up.

McIlroy held his nerve to birdie the final two holes to end the week on 19-under ahead of Justin Thomas and Tony Finau at St. George’s Golf & Country Club just outside Toronto.

He averaged 316.9 yards off the tee (ranked 2nd) with his 9-degree TaylorMade Stealth Plus driver, gaining nearly four shots on the field, (ranked 12th).

Unusually, he used two 3-woods during the tournament. A TaylorMade SIM for the first two rounds and a TaylorMade Stealth model over the weekend.

McIlroy has received plenty of criticism for his wedge play recently. Entering the week, from 50 to 125 yards he was averaging 20 feet, 6 inches from the flag with his approaches. From 100 to 125 yards he was averaging 21 feet, 4 inches.

But in Canada, McIlroy was fully dialled in with his two TaylorMade Milled Grind 3 models at 54- and 60-degrees. From 50 to 125 yards he averaged 5 feet, 1 inch, and from 100 to 125 yards, 3 feet, 3 inches.

This huge improvement proved key and bodes well for next week’s US Open at Brookline Country Club.
