Breakdown of College Golf: How Does It Work?
Callaway has launched its new Apex Pro Series range, consisting of four irons as well as a utility iron and utility wood. Here’s a quick guide.
Callaway, with a long history of being market leaders in golf club innovation, released the first Apex range in 2021 which included Apex, Apex Pro, Apex MB, Apex DCB and Apex TCB – models for everyone from tour pros to mid-handicap club golfers.
They proved extremely popular, with Callaway smartly marketing them as being between better player and game improver irons delivering more ball speed and distance.
Jon Rahm, who signed a multi-year deal with Callaway Golf to use the brand’s equipment in January 2021, used the Apex TCB from 4-iron-PW at Augusta National when he won the Masters in April. The new updated range has been designed using insight from the brand’s own tour players, including Rahm.
Callaway also designed this new range while very much keeping in mind the emerging trend of golfers wanting to seamlessly blend different models in their range of irons. Titleist recently did this with the release of the T-series irons which blend with the U505 and T200 utility clubs released alongside them.
This ease of blending has been achieved by Callaway designing every iron, including the utility, with the same MIM back weight which, as well as performance consistency, gives the irons a visual uniformity. Also, all the irons feature the same Dynamic Sole design and progressive centre of gravity positioning.
Callaway call this model the “ultimate players performance iron” for golfers who want distance and precision. It has a hollow body construction with a forged face and forged carbon steel body for a premium, ultra-soft feel. Urethane microspheres dampen sound and improve feel while still allowing the face to flex for higher ball speeds across the face. The long irons have a forged 455 face cup to enhance distance and forgiveness, while the shorter irons have a forged 1025 face plate to for extra control. Offered from 3-AW.
The “ultimate tour iron” is a cavity back designed for tour pros and elite ball-strikers, who want pure feel and workability, with the body and face forged as one piece from 1025 carbon steel for the soft feel that elite golfers are looking for. The long irons have a lower CG which promotes higher trajectory shots, while the short irons use a higher CG for a lower ball flight, generating more spin for more control. 3-AW.
Pure blade iron developed for the best players who want a high level of performance from a modern Tour blade, forged as one piece from 1025 carbon steel, for the purest feel. The Dynamic Sole design keeps speed up through the turf for consistent contact on every shot, and the progressive CG throughout the set promotes high shots in the long irons and lower shots with more spin in the shorter ones. 3-AW.
Designed to be a powerful and versatile option off the tee for better golfers. Like the rest of the irons in the range, there’s a Dynamic Sole design with its pre-worn leading edge to cut through the turf. Featuring a similar construction to the Apex Pro long irons, this model has a 455 steel face for powerful impact with the Urethane Microspheres for soft feel. A great option whether you’re looking for a driving iron or a long iron replacement. Offered in 18, 20 and 23 degrees.
This club delivers the benefits of high-lofted fairway woods and hybrids, built to produce a neutral ball flight so golfers can work it either way, including on different trajectories. Designed with a new Cutwave Pro Sole for efficient turf interaction, while the CG positioning delivers higher launch, steeper landing angles, consistent spin, and reduced draw bias. The A.I-designed C300 steel face adds flex around the entire face, stabilizing ball speeds for better distance control. 17, 18 and 21 degrees.
