Camiral Golf & Wellness, formerly known as PGA Catalunya, offers golfers five-star luxury, two of the best golf courses in Spain and an incredible new Wellness Centre.
Less than an hour from Barcelona and close to the beaches of the Costa Brava, Camiral Golf & Wellness is one of the world’s leading golf and lifestyle resorts.
Just 15 minutes from the historic town of Girona and nestled in the rolling pine forests of Catalunya, this fantastic resort offers two championship golf courses, a luxury 5-star hotel and contemporary four-star hotel, superb wine and gastronomy and a new state-of-the-art Wellness Centre.
The resort rebranded to Camiral Golf & Wellness in late 2022 in part to reflect the resort’s location on the ancient Roman Cami Ral hiking route linking Spain and France, between the ocean and mountains through forests and lakes.
But mostly the new name reflects the €5m investment into the resort, transforming the existing spa into the new Wellness Centre, a far more comprehensive facility delivering integrative programmes as part of a 360-degree holistic wellness model.
Nestled in the Catalan forests akin to a nature reserve, the Wellness Centre is more than just a spa. With indulgent massages, technology-led treatments, a state-of-the-art gym and experts on hand to sculpt your bespoke retreat, this holistic approach leaves visitors with long-lasting benefits for the mind, body and soul.
There’s sports recovery treatments using state-of-the-art technology including Cryotherapy and Oxygen Chamber Therapy, yoga and pilates, and a world-class range of beauty, aromatherapy, mind and body wellness treatments and programmes.
The resort is home to two 18-hole championship golf courses, the Stadium Course and the Tour Course. Both are beautiful woodland layouts designed by Angel Gallardo with manicured rolling fairways and pretty lakes framed by pine tress and the Pyrenees mountains.
The Stadium Course opened in 1999 and hosted the Spanish Open on the European Tour in 2000, 2009 and 2014. Thanks to five tees on each hole, golfers of all levels can enjoy it. Oak trees, strategically placed bunkers and numerous water hazards are just some of the obstacles that grab your attention.
The Tour Course is easier but just as beautiful. Dominated by pine trees and lakes, this course is also shorter, yet its clever design ensures it remains a challenge for every level of player. Most of the holes feature wide fairways, strategic bunkers and water hazards. The course co-hosted the European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage between 2008-16.
The PGA Academy at the resort offers a complete golf learning experience for players or all levels, with expert tuition and courses using the latest technology including Trackman. This includes the Junior Golf Academy where youngsters can enroll on training programmes or take tailored-made lessons.
There’s also the Golf Hub which provides state-of-the-art practice facilities including a natural grass practice tee, advanced swing analysis technology and a 2,000 square-meter putting green and chipping area with five bunkers.
The resort has two hotel options, the five-star Hotel Camiral and the contemporary four-star Lavida Hotel. Hotel Camiral blends modern aesthetics and natural furnishings with 138 rooms and living spaces that are luxurious and tastefully elegant. Built in a low rise art deco style, the rooms come with views over the swimming pool, golf course or driving range.
Lavida Hotel is a 50-room haven with modern décor, high-tech features and elegant details, buzzing communal spaces, a swimming pool and private balconies with golf course views.
The resort also offers a range of exclusive luxury rental properties, including luxury apartments, villas and townhouses to suit your taste and budget.
There are five excellent dining options to choose from including the refined 1477 Restaurant, a superb culinary experience based on locally sourced ingredients cooked over the grill. The lively and informal Club Cafe has a sunny terrace overlooking the Stadium Course and Montseny Massif mountain range and serves classic dishes and local favourites. It’s elegant, modern and a bold move away from the traditional clubhouse.
Bella’s has a Mediterranean-inspired menu famous for its rustic Italian pizzas and there’s also the Pool Bar with poolside drinks, burgers and snacks, and the Lounge Bar between the golf courses which boasts a menu of exclusive cocktails and international wines.
Guests can take advantage of the running circuits around the resort or enjoy a guided bike tour. Other outdoor activities include Forest Park, a family adventure park with a zip-wire, cycling, trekking and horse-riding on trails through nearby forests and mountains. There’s also paddle and tennis courts, a beach shuttle and children’s club.
The resort offers wine tasting with experts and is now producing its own red, white and rose wines from its very own vineyard. The region directly around the resort is also home to the Emporda Wine Route. One of the richest wine routes in Spain, it dates back to Roman times. Visit the wineries here and enjoy wine tasting.
The beautiful spa town of Caldes de Malavella and the elegant city of Girona with its rich culture, history and quaint atmosphere are great places to visit, while the beaches of the Costa Brava are also only a few minutes’ shuttle or drive away. Barcelona is just an hour away as well.
