Spa & Swing: Resorts for Golfers Who Love Wellness

Paris, the Italian Lakes and Mauritius are among our romantic choices for honeymooning golfers. Wonderful scenery, indulgent resorts and great courses.

Paris, the romance capital of the world, is just one hour north from Domaine et Golf de Vaugouard, a stunning 18th century resort full of charm in the heart of a nature reserve in the Loire Valley. The 18-hole manicured golf course is full of lakes and trees, while the luxurious rooms with glorious views, great food including the gourmet restaurant Les Saules, and historic surroundings make it an ideal destination for a golfing honeymoon. This is a great place to relax and indulge in the luxuries of France.
Rivalling France as a honeymoon destination, Italy has gorgeous scenery combined with delicious food and wine. One of the most beautiful regions is Lake Como where you’ll find the 5-star Villa d’Este, an opulent retreat set on the shores of one of Europe’s most romantic lakes. A luxury hotel since 1873, today guests can find renaissance gardens and exquisite local cuisine. At the resort, Golf Club Villa d’Este is known as one of Europe’s most beautiful courses which winds its way through chestnut, ash and pine trees between mountains and the lake.

Not far from Como is Lake Garda, the largest of the Italian lakes, where couples can soak up the historic charm of towns such as Peschiera del Garda with its Venice like canals, the lakeside beauty of Lazise, the vineyards of Bardolino, and the romantic walkways of Garda itself. Venice, Brescia, Verona and the Dolomites are among the options for superb day excursions.
Just over three miles from Lake Garda is Palazzo Arzaga Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, a 5-star stunning palace hotel set in 150 acres of countryside. There’s a wellness centre, 18-hole championship golf course and a 9-hole course. Another great option is Quellenhof Luxury Resort at Lazise, a 5-star retreat close to the mountains of Monte Baldo. The hotel has special greefee agreements with 12 local golf clubs. Golf Club Paradiso del Garda, Golf Club Ca’degli Ulivi, Golf Club Verona, Golf Club Chervò San Vigilio, and Golf Club Villafranca are all less than half an hour away.

Hotel Jardin Tecina, La Gomera is charming resort on the island of La Gomera. Surrounded by acres of sub-tropical gardens close to the beach, it enjoys great views over Tenerife and Mount Teide. Suites have ocean views where couples can enjoy glorious sunsets from the balcony or terrace, a romantic experience made all the more memorable by sighting dolphins approaching the coast of La Gomera.
Enjoy treatments at The Spa Ahemon and romantic meals at El Laurel, a beach-side tranquil restaurant, or the special place for couples: the ‘Cave for Two’ – the ultimate in romantic, candlelit dining in a natural private cave overlooking the ocean. The resort also has the superb Tecina Golf, the resident 18-hole golf course played through tropical fruit trees with ocean views.

One of the most romantic regions of the Caribbean islands is Punta Cana, on the east coast of the Dominican Republic. Along this stunning coastline, The Westin Punta Cana Resort & Club is one of the newest resorts. The rooms feature private balconies with soothing views of lush gardens or the Caribbean, while the suites have spa-like Heavenly Showers and inviting Westin Heavenly Beds. There’s three miles of white sandy beaches and two championship golf courses designed by world renowned architects, the 18-hole Corales Golf Course by Tom Fazio, and the 27-hole La Cana Golf Course, designed by Pete Dye.

If you’re dreaming about palm tree-fringed beaches, crystal blue waters, and beautiful sunshine, then Mauritius could be the choice for your honeymoon. Regarded as one of the most luxurious hotels here is the 5-star Anahita Resort. It boasts the Anahita Spa by THÉMAÉ Paris, a gorgeous place to relax, while the lavishly furnished suites with private infinity pools overlook either the sea or the resort’s two 18-hole golf courses, the Ernie Els-designed Anahita and Bernhard Langer’s Ile aux Cerfs.

The islands of Hawaii are hard to beat for a romantic getaway. On Kauai, the luxury St. Regis Princeville Hotel is perfect for couples, set in an idyllic location overlooking Hanalei Bay. It’s home to two excellent golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The Prince Course is set along Kauai’s dramatic coastline, while the Makai Course is one of the most scenic rounds you will ever play. The ideal romantic golfing honeymoon.
