Golfing in the Heart of Tuscany
Before we mention the world class golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, let’s first talk about your stay at the incredible resort and the amenities offered to guest by Barceló Montecastillo. The beautifully designed resort is situated in Jerez, in the Andalusia region of Spain’s southern coast. Lying just minutes away from Circuito de Jerez, a popular venue for winter testing for Formula 1, it is not uncommon run into famous drivers at dinner time.
Visitors can choose to stay in a variety of chic rooms which were redesigned in 2013 to provide guests with the latest tendencies in hotel comfort, with amenities that include panoramic “Raindance” showers, 42” HD TV screens, and free Wi-Fi. However, since this is a golf trip we recommend staying in their appropriately named, Super Golf View rooms, which include all the amenities complimented with magnificent views of the course and its surroundings. If you are planning your trip with your family or a large group you can also look into booking a villa. The two bedroom villa offers spacious accommodations, 60 m2, along with access to large garden areas.
Outside of their incredible rooms Barceló Montecastillo continues to cater to golfers. The incredible facilities at the U-Spa offer golfers a chance to unwind and recover after a morning tee time in the hydrotherapy pool or other amenities like their Turkish bath or Finnish Sauna. With 5 massage treatment rooms and a beauty spa they’ll have you feeling and looking great! Golfers can stay in shape during their stay with a modern gym that Gary Player would enjoy working out in. And if you feel like relaxing with your family or enjoying some drinks with your friends, an afternoon by one of two Barceló Montecastillo pools is always a good option too!
Amenities aside, the Jack Nicklaus signature course is the real reason to visit this resort. The 18-hole, 72-par layout played host to the Volvo Masters for 5 consecutive years from 1997 to 2001. The course continues to improve and recently underwent a project to recover the original lake designs on holes 10 and 17, which the Golden Bear described as one of the most spectacular places on the renowned course. Nicklaus took full advantage of the spacious setting to design a layout of tournament dimensions with extremely generous fairways, fast greens and sprawling bunker complexes. Montecastillo offers fantastic facilities to practice and combined with the course it’s almost impossible to grow tired of playing here. The last two holes offer a challenging finish that makes match play very interesting; just take All Square user Antonio García Del Río’s word for it. The course is a golfer’s paradise and the surrounding area makes this more of an experience than just a round of golf. With free unlimited green fees offered to Barceló Montecastillo Golf guests (non-refundable service, only available with prior booking), this is the perfect golf getaway. And just in case your swing needs a quick tune-up before hitting the course, their Caddie Master School offers individual and group lessons at any player level, with instruction by the best professionals.
All Square recommendation:
Girls/Guys trip – Barcelo Montecastillo offers a wide range of choices from bed & breakfast rates to all-inclusive packages. Our recommendation, the all-inclusive premium for golf. Why? Because it includes breakfast, lunch and dinner at their el Lagar Restaurant either inside or on the terrace with views of the golf course. Breakfast is buffet style and lunch and dinner are either buffet or menu service (depending on the season) and include national alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, tea and mineral water. Greens fees, buggy, and rental clubs (Callaway or TaylorMade) are all included. The package is a week in golf paradise!! The weeklong stay allows you to hone your skills at the practice facility and mix up playing formats on the course to keep having fun with your friends.
Family trip – Villas is great for families and allows children to have their own room. Villas are also pet friendly which is nice and come with the free unlimited green fees that all Barceló Montecastillo guest enjoy.
