Play in paradise: Golf in Mauritius
Titleist have released their brand new 2021 TSi2 and TSi3 drivers and fairway woods. This comes just weeks after the brand launched sleek limited edition all-black versions of their T100·S and T200 irons, and the Tour Speed golf ball. Let’s take a look at them all.
Titleist say these clubs are their “longest, straightest, best-looking and best-sounding” drivers and fairway woods yet. To manufacture them, they used ATI 425 Aerospace Titanium, a material used in NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander. This allowed them to create their fastest ever club face. As well as more ball speed, these clubs have improved forgiveness.
A newly shaped crown reduces drag by up to 15 per cent compared to the original TS range to help increase clubhead speed, while a softer toe section was implemented after consulting Tour players. They have improved the inertia too, to provide more consistent ball speed and lower, more stable spin rates.
The TSi2 has a deep centre of gravity for speed and accuracy across the face due to a fixed 9g weight at the rear. The TSi3 features a more compact profile, a new SureFit CG Track positioned around the rear, and five slot positions for the 8g weight to alter shot shape and launch characteristics.
The Titleist TSi fairway woods also have a new aerodynamic shape as well as ARC 4.0, a channel behind the face which provides more face flex, higher launch, lower spin and higher ball speed. The TSi2 is for high launch and maximum forgiveness while the TSi3 has a smaller profile with a deeper face, as well as more shot variation with the SureFit CG Track comprising three positions for a 12g weight to slot into.
Titleist released their fully forged player’s T-Series irons a year ago, which includes the T100, T200, T300, and T400 models, and then released the T100·S a few months later. Now the brand has added these new versions for players who prefer the look of dark, non-glare irons.
The clubs have been given a dark PVD finish and come standard with black shafts and grips. The T200 comes with a True Temper Dynamic Gold Onyx AMT Black shaft, and the T100·S with the Project X LZ Onyx shaft, and both come fitted with all-black Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grips. Apart from these aesthetic differences, the black T100·S and T200 irons are identical to the standard clubs.
The T100·S irons, (the S stands for strong), have lofts that are 2 degrees stronger than the standard T100 iron lofts. They are designed for accomplished golfers who want a compact head and short blade length, but also want extra distance. They have high-density tungsten in the heel and toe of the mid to long irons to control the centre of gravity and create the perfect progression.
The T200 irons, which replaced the AP3 irons, also have high-density tungsten in the heel and toe of the mid to long irons, and they provide more distance thanks to Max Impact technology which is located on the back of the club head. A screw holds a silicone polymer core in place, and as the face flexes at impact, the core compresses and then rebounds, which results in more ball speed and distance.
Titleist’s Tour Speed Golf Ball is a three-piece, thermoplastic urethane covered golf ball which they say provides exceptional distance in the long game and precise short game scoring control.
The ball features a new high-speed core formulation, combined with a fast ionomer casing layer. These contribute to increased speed and low long game spin for maximum distance. It also features a new 346 quadrilateral dipyramid dimple design which provides penetrating flight. Lastly, it has a proprietary thermoplastic urethane (TPU) cover which generates spin for short game feel, while a new arrow-based side stamp on the ball has been designed to help with putting alignment.
The Tour Speed will now sit alongside the Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x, one of the most popular balls on the PGA Tour.
