Royal Melbourne Golf Club — Australia’s Golfing Masterpiece
Let’s peek inside the golf bag of Race to Dubai winner Lee Westwood. The Englishman has been a Ping staffer his entire career and currently has a bag full of the company’s clubs.
Westwood started the year by winning the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in January, and ended it by claiming his third Race to Dubai title after finishing runner-up at the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai in December.
Ping G425 LST (10.5 degrees @ 10 degrees, neutral)
Shaft: Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei AV Raw Orange 65TX (Tip 1/2, D5, 46 Inches)
After switching between the Ping G410 driver and the newer G425 at the start of the season, the 47-year-old seems to have now settled on the G425.
All Ping G425 Series clubs come standard with Arccos Caddie Smart Grip and Smart Sensor technology. An embedded sensor automatically records and analyzes every shot when paired with the Arccos Caddie app. The LST refers to low spin.
Ping G425 Max (14.5 degrees)
Shaft: Aldila NV 2KXV Green (Tipped 1, D3, 43 Inches)
Ping G425 (19 degrees at 19.7)
Shaft: Aldila Tour Green Hybrid 85 X (40.5 inches, D2+)
Westwood also carries a Ping G425 3 wood as well as a Ping G425 hybrid.
Ping i210 (4-PW) Blue Dot D0+ Swing Weight
Shaft: Ping JZ Stiff w/Cushin (hard stepped)
His irons are the Ping i210 model which he has from 4-iron through to PW. They have a compact blade length, thin top line, modest offset, and unlike a lot of muscleback blades which are used by some of the world’s top professional players, the i210 irons are a worthy choice for good club golfers looking for a solid, reliable iron.
Ping i210 U (50,54), Ping Glide Forged (60 degrees)
Shaft: Ping JZ Stiff w/Cushin (hard stepped)
Westwood also uses two i210 utility wedges at 50 and 54 degrees of loft, but uses a 60 degree Ping Glide Forged lob wedge as his only pure wedge.
Ping Sigma 2 Fetch (35 inches, 3 degrees)
Grip: Ping PP58 Midsize
His putter is the new Ping Sigma 2 Fetch, which has the added feature of getting the ball out of the hole for you. A bonus for golfers getting on in years!
Lamkin Crossline Full Cord 58 Rib (+2 wraps) on woods, Ping ID8 White 1/2 Cord (+2 wraps) on irons.
