Nacho Elvira’s Dubai Breakthrough: WITB and a Moment to Remember

When you’ve been treated to some of the world’s best golf courses, it can be difficult to drag yourself away from the links. Luckily at these five venues, you don’t have too. Why not grab some dinner, a few beers and get ready for some night-clubbing, although not as you’ve ever known it before?
We take a look at the best five venues to play night golf.
Even the hardiest golfers can be tempted to stay in the Air Conditioning during the UAE’s searing summer months.
Luckily Abu Dhabi Golf Club has come up with the ideal solution. Night golf! For when the heat gets too much, golfers have the option to tee it up under the stars, with floodlights illuminating the outstanding championship layout.
Let’s face it, the 27-hole golf complex is remarkable whatever time of day you choose to play. The experience of teeing it up alongside your buddies at night, however, is likely to make for an evening you’ll never forget.
The course itself needs little introduction. Host to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, Abu Dhabi Golf Club is a marvel in golf course design, with the season opener regularly drawing the world’s best players.
If night golf is right up your street, then look no further than the UAE. The booming destination is home to some of the world’s most jaw-dropping layouts. With temperatures regularly rising to 40°C it’s little surprise that the country is also the best place in the world to experience the novelty of playing golf under floodlights.
For those heading to Dubai, no visit would be complete without a round at Emirates Golf Club.
Host to the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, the course was the first grass layout in the Middle East and remains one of the region’s most celebrated venues.
Set against the backdrop of Dubai’s iconic urban landscape, the Faldo Course is Dubai’s only fully floodlight 18-hole layout.
With tee times as late as 9.55pm, there’s no excuse not to enjoy this truly remarkable destination.
Montgomerie Maxx Royal offers a unique experience with 9 floodlit holes to be enjoyed until late at night. Colin Montgomerie is another among the stars of the game who have taken the opportunity to design a course in the coastal resort region of Antalya. He designed one of the most exciting course in Europe and it is set to host many tournaments.
Challenging and undulating, featuring 8 lakes and approximately 7 hectares of bunkers the Montgomerie Maxx Royal is one of the toughest courses in Belek. The greens will be a particular source of frustration, being so slanted that many will find themselves with multiple putts every time. The setting is excellent, featuring sandy soil and gentle dunes dotted with pine trees.
Welcome to Europe’s first fully floodlit golf course.
Already one of the continent’s most exciting designs, Carya Golf Club has always done things a little differently. Based on the classic British sandbelt courses, the layout is Turkey’s first heathland design. Heavily planted with pine and eucalyptus trees, it is also among the most beautiful.
The introduction of night golf has only enhanced the course’s reputation as a must-visit destination.
Situated in Antalya’s Belek Region, Carya Golf Club currently hosts the Turkish Challenge on the European Challenge Tour. Luckily, considering the tough test the course poses, you won’t also be required to tee off from the back pegs, which stretch 7,177 yards.
Nonetheless, Carya is a fun course to play, especially at night, when its immaculate fairways are illuminated in their full glory.
Ba Na Hills Golf Club is one of Asia’s best new courses. Located in the foothills of the eponymous iconic French resort, the layout is Luke Donald’s first design. He’s certainly set the bar high. Located 25 minutes from downtown Da Nang, the layout has already earned a reputation as a world-class venue.
It’s hard to exaggerate the beauty of the course, particularly at night, when all 18 holes are lit up. Whether you are struggling with the heat, have a late flight, or simply need to go around again, Ba Na Hills has it covered.
With Da Nang earning a reputation as one of the most exciting new destinations on the planet, there’s never been a better time to see what Vietnam has to offer.
