DP World Tour 2024: What’s in store?

The 2024 DP World Tour season will see more prize money, more champions and a blockbuster first-ever play-off double-header. Here are the details.

What’s new?

The DP World Tour in 2024 will see a brand new play-off double-header to finish the season. Two Play-Offs will be played in November in the United Arab Emirates, where the year’s number one player will be crowned.

The Abu Dhabi Championship has moved from its usual January date to become the penultimate event and the first DP World Tour Play-Off, featuring the leading 70 players on the Race to Dubai rankings.

The top 50 at the end of that event will then qualify for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, played in Dubai on November 14-17. Nicolai Hojgaard won the 2023 tournament, with Rory McIlroy finishing as the season’s number one golfer for the fifth time.

Events & prize money

There will be 45 events on this season’s Race to Dubai played in 24 countries, with an increased overall prize fund. The Race to Dubai is the season-long race to crown the DP World Tour’s number one player. Players will be competing for a fund of $148.5m (not including the majors).

Global Swings

The golf calendar will feature three new phases:

1: Five Global Swings – November 2023 to August 2024.

2: The Back 9 – Nine of the DP World Tour’s most historic tournaments and national Opens – from September 2024 to October 2024.

3: Two DP World Tour Play-Offs – the Abu Dhabi Championship and the DP World Tour Championship – November 2024.

DP championship

Each of the five Global Swings (outlined below) will have its own individual rankings and champion who will each earn $200,000 from a $1m bonus fund. The champions of each Swing will qualify for all of the Back 9 events. The five Swings will also offer qualification into the first three Rolex Series events.

First event of 2024

The six tournaments that make up the Opening Swing have already been played, so the first tournament of 2024 will be the opening event of the International Swing – the Dubai Invitational at Dubai Creek from January 11-14.

The Opening Swing champion was Australia’s Min Woo Lee who won the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship and came third at the ISPS Handa Australian Open, both in played November. That put him first on both the Race to Dubai and Opening Swing rankings.
