Top 3 golf destinations in Asia
Unforgettable experiences are everywhere in Vietnam. From the natural beauty of Ban Gioc Falls and Halong Bay, to the man-made artistry of the sacred temples and pagodas to the rice terraces and beaches, Vietnam has a lot to offer. The climate can be divided into a tropical and a temperate zone. In the southern areas the dry season occurs from November to March and the rainy season from April to October. In the northern parts of Vietnam, it can be quite cool in the winter, but very warm in summer.
The French brought the game of golf to Vietnam in the 1920’s. In recent years, the country has become one of the best up-and-coming golfing destinations in the world. It is the emergence of a selection of world-class courses over the past few years however that has transformed the country into one of the most-talked about new golf destinations on the planet.
We have selected some of the best courses to help you plan your next golf trip to Vietnam.
The Greg Norman-designed Bluffs Ho Tram Strip golf course is located 80 kilometres southeast of Ho Chi Minh City on Vietnam’s southern coastline. Opened in 2014, the links-style, par-71 layout is already considered among the best golf courses in the world — and for good reason: It’s set on a rugged site with dramatic elevation changes that make for breathtaking panoramic views from almost every hole.
Said Norman: “As a golf course designer, you only get the opportunity to work with sites as good as this maybe a few times in your career. It took Mother Nature thousands of years to create these sand dunes, so we made every effort to preserve the natural character of the site. It’s a very special place.”
Danang, in Central Vietnam, is the beating heart of the country’s fledgling golf scene. Once a quiet backwater, the city has emerged as one of Vietnam’s most exciting destinations. Opened in 2010, the eponymous course runs adjacent to Danang’s world famous beach, and is just minutes from the heart of the city.
BRG Danang Golf Resort opened in 2010 and is situated on the fledgling central coast of Vietnam. The Dunes Courses, designed by former world #1 Greg Norman, is a links-style layout that was designed in the true spirit of the game. Fairways are generous and there is restrained use of water and no out-of-bounds. Sculpted bunkering, shaped putting greens, and large natural waste areas have been cut directly from the surrounding sand dunes.
All in all the course provides a unique golf challenge that every golfer will enjoy.
Located on a tranquil bay facing the East Sea between the ancient city of Hue to the north and Danang to the south, Laguna Lang Co Golf Club is a 6,958-yard, par-71 gem that has been designed by former world #1 and 6-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo. The most experienced players and beginners alike can enjoy the Lang Co Golf Club. The course takes great advantage of the variety of existing environments weaving between trees, natural streams, over rice paddies and through impressive rock features.
Each hole on the course is different, presenting golfers a myriad of opportunities for an interesting and memorable round of golf.
The course is located at the foothills of the famed Ba Na Hills on Vietnam’s central coast, located 25 minutes from downtown Da Nang. Designed by Luke Donald, Ba Na Hills is a world-class facility and is Donald’s first ever design project. The golf course features two distinct nines with a relationship of water to playing areas providing variety and balance. The front nine is somewhat more traditional forest/parkland in style, while the back nine winds its way through the twists and turns of the surrounding hillside.
The golf course provides a good balance of challenge and enjoyment for golfers of all skill levels.
Montgomerie Links is located midway between Hoi An and Danang, Vietnam’s vibrant third largest city. It is just 15 minutes drive from Danang International Airport, which is serviced by direct local and international flights. European Tour legend Colin Montgomerie designed the beautifully presented links-style course, giving golfers the feeling of being in Ireland or Scotland without the cold temperatures of the British Isles.
The course caters to players of all abilities as holes have been routed through an incredibly natural formation of dunes, heartlands and seaside vegetation.
The Vinpearl Resort is set on Hon Tre Island in a private cove of Nha Trang Bay. It takes one hour by car and speedboat from Nha Trang’s Cam Ranh Airport to reach Vinpearl Golf Club. This picturesque golf course provides a challenging 6,787-yard layout which stretches over 180 hectares. The course meanders through the valley along the lake banks and seashore, with soothing breezes flowing through the palms.
Every hole on the golf course offers a breathtaking view over Nha Trang Bay, one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Each hole is a unique challenge creating unmatched satisfaction and a memorable experience for every golfer.
