Thomas Detry is a professional golfer from Belgium who plays on the Challenge Tour and practices at the Royal Golf Club of Belgium. His goal is to earn his European Tour card this season to compete against the best golfers in the world. He enjoys using All Square to share his life on tour with his fans and friends.
1. About Golf
To start, can you tell us how you first got into golf?
I started playing golf when I was six years old with my dad. When I was younger I tried a lot of different sports like tennis or field hockey. It’s only at the age of 11 or 12 that I became really passionate about golf.
What would make golf more fun?
Shortening a round of golf to maybe nine holes would probably attract more people and make it more fun. Changing the size of the holes and make them bigger would also be a funny change and make many players feel more relaxed on the course.
Your funniest golf experience?
I remember playing barefoot and shirtless in Florida. You would never be allowed to do this in Europe.
How do you like your life on the Challenge Tour?
It’s great. Every week we travel to new places, meet awesome people and get to play golf on beautiful golf courses. I really like my weekly office.
Your top-3 golf destinations?
My 3 favorite golf destinations are Florida, Scotland and California.
Your top-5 golf courses?
My favorite courses are: The Old Course in Saint Andrews, Medinah Country Club, Whispering Pines, Eugene Country Club and The Floridian.
2.
How did you first discover All Square?
I first heard about All Square when I was playing the 2014 European Amateur Championship in Scotland. I met one of the founders and I really liked the idea of connecting the world of golf on a single online platform. All Square is a great tool for golfers to discover new golf courses and stay in touch with their network of golfers, locally and internationally.
Complete the sentence: What I like most about All Square is…
…the interaction that you have between golfers and the fact that it’s only about golf.
Your favorite feature on All Square?
I like the check-in feature most as it allows me to notify my friends when I hit the course! I find it really cool that Martin Kaymer is also engaging with his fans on All Square.
3. Rapid Fire Questions
Hitting long drives or sinking long putts?
Hitting long drives.
Having the round of your life or a hole-in-one?
Round of my life.
Early morning or late afternoon tee-time?
Early morning.
Winning a Major, the Ryder Cup or an Olympic Gold Medal?
A Major (The Masters).
Dream fourball?
