Mauritius is the home of beautiful golf courses from the likes of Ernie Els and Bernhard Langer complementing the luxury resorts and idyllic beaches of this Indian Ocean paradise.
Year-round sunshine makes Mauritius a great golfing destination, particularly ideal for a golf vacation during winter with an average temperature of 25°C in February. So, let’s take a quick tour…
Heritage Golf Club, part of the the five-star Heritage Resorts & Golf, features the 18-hole championship course La Reserve Golf Links designed by Peter Matkovich and 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen. The course is the host venue for the DP World Tour’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
It was the Indian Ocean’s first contemporary links course when it opened in 2023, set in the beautiful south-west region. Inspired by the great seaside links of Ireland and Scotland, there’s elevated tees, raised greens and spectacular views over Mauritius’ tropical bays.
Matkovich also designed the club’s Le Château Golf Course, a superb 18-hole championship course set in the lush grounds of the elegant 19th century chateau from where it gets its name. The views of the Indian Ocean are stunning.
The five-star Anahita Resort is home to two 18-hole golf courses, the Ernie Els-designed Anahita and Bernhard Langer’s Ile aux Cerfs. Anahita is a championship course with six stunning oceanfront holes culminating in a final tee shot that is among the most spectacular in the world.
Ile aux Cerfs is another championship course which offers superb views of the surrounding Indian Ocean. It’s set on its very own island, accessible via a quick boat transfer – a paradise pleasure in itself. Langer has created a testing masterpiece but it’s incredibly scenic, snaking through a coral island refuge with volcanic rock formations, lakes and tropical plantations.
Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort and Spa is one of the most prestigious five-star resorts in Mauritius. The outstanding Paradis Golf Course here emphasizes the site’s unique scenery and tropical feel. Fringed by the crystal-clear lagoon of Black River on one side and backed by Morne Brabant Mountain on the other, it offers a combination of stunning scenery and challenging play.
The five-star Constance Belle Mare Plage is situated on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and is a gorgeous place to stay, with two 18-hole championship golf courses, the Legend and the Links.
The Legend Golf Course is a parkland layout with beautiful mature trees and lush vegetation between the fairways. The Links Course, designed by Peter Alliss and Rodney Wright, is an equally challenging and scenic track that will test every golfers’ skills.
Tamarina Golf is not only set in a gorgeous environment, but also offers a fun and challenging test of golfing skills. The uniqueness of this expansive course lies in the contrast between the wild intensity of its rugged surroundings and the design finesse of its greens and fairways.
Heritage Resorts & Golf, with a beachfront location on a former sugar plantation, offers exquisite five-star glamour at its three resorts: Heritage The Villas, Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort and Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort.
Le Telfair is inspired by 19th century colonial architecture and is set in an historic mansion with tropical gardens, pools, white sandy beach and an exclusive spa and beach club. Awali is equally luxurious, comprised of thatched and wooden-tiled buildings with pools, beachfront location, nature reserve, water sports and a stunning spa. Together, they offer 12 restaurants and 8 bars.
The Villas, with two-, three- and four-bedroom options, are large open-plan sanctuaries with outdoor terraces screened by tropical greenery. Surrounded by landscaped gardens, there’s an infinity pool and guests get full access to the neighbouring resorts of Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort and Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort.
Guests enjoy unlimited tee times on both the Ernie Els-designed course at Anahita Golf Club and the Bernhard Langer signature course at Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club.
It’s a five-star resort with outstanding service set in tropical gardens on a secluded lagoon overlooking Bambous Mountain. 136 spacious single-storey open-plan villas, each with a plunge pool and garden. It boasts the island’s only overwater spa with 12 sea-facing suites on stilts. There’s four pools, four excellent restaurants and a kids club.
Four incredible hotels – detailed below – all offering privilege access to Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club, including land shuttle transfer to Pointe Maurice jetty and boat transfer. Guests also enjoy preferred access fee to Legend Golf Course, Links Golf Course, Anahita Golf Club, Tamarina Golf Club and Avalon Golf Estate.
Long Beach Resort – Modern, chic five-star hotel fringing the stunning beach at Belle Mare. Encompassed by tropical gardens, every room has access to its own stretch of beach, garden or pool. All feature a private balcony or terrace.
Sugar Beach Resort & Spa – Stylish five-star hotel along the beautiful bay of Flic-en-Flac. Plantation-style resort that mixes old-world charm with modern comforts. 238 elegant sea or garden facing rooms, each with its own private balcony.
La Pirogue – Four-star haven set on the stunning Sunset Coast. Beach, garden, family and pavilion-style bungalows with thatched roofs similar to the unfurled sail of a local fishing boat from where the resort gets its name. Each opens privately onto a palm grove and the turquoise lagoon.
Ambre Resort & Spa – Four-star, all-inclusive hotel for guests aged 16 and over. Nestled between a coral-reef lagoon and tropical gardens and built with open architecture providing uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean. It offers sea view and garden view rooms and suites.
