Brian Harman romped to a six-shot victory at The Open at Royal Liverpool in soggy conditions for his first major win. His old-school putter provided an incredible statistic.
The American is three-time winner on the PGA Tour and a Titleist staffer. His bag included 13 Titleist clubs, as well as a TaylorMade putter that helped the 36-year-old lead the Strokes Gained: Putting stat, which proved key.
Over the week, the 36-year-old faced 59 putts from inside ten feet and made 58 of them. It’s a TaylorMade Spider OS counter balance, a model which first came on the market in 2016.
At the top of the bag he had a Titleist TSi2 driver. He’s not the longest, but he ranked 11th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee. His 3-wood is an older model, the Titleist TS2, with a high loft of 13.5 degrees, while his irons are a combination: the Titleist U500 driving iron for his 4-5, and the Titleist 620 CB irons for his 6-PW.
His wedges – three Titleist Vokey SM9s, in 50, 54 and 60 degrees – also worked to great effect in Liverpool.
