In part two of our itinerary for a golf trip to the Spanish island of Mallorca, we have picked out three more exceptional golf courses and excellent nearby accommodation.
If you have the time, the itineraries can be merged into one for those who don’t mind driving and staying in two different hotels in one trip. Enjoy!
Arrival airport: Palma International Airport
We rate this picturesque course as the 16th best in the whole of Spain. Located around 45 minutes north-east of the airport, Club de Golf Alcanada was designed by the great Robert Trent Jones Jnr. It’s a parkland layout with pine and olive tree-lined fairways, gentle undulations, and panoramic ocean views. There are almost 60 bunkers, the greens are challenging, and some of the tee shots are tricky. You’ll love the pristine conditions and the all-round beauty.
Also around 45 minutes west of the airport, Pula Golf Resort was completely redesigned by Spanish legend Jose María Olazabal between 2004 and 2006. It’s a par 72 layout where 14 of the 18 greens are visible from the tee. It’s built on the site of an ancient estate and these features have been retained in the design, as well as great views of the sea and surrounding mountains. The club has hosted events like the PGA European Tour Championships Mallorca, and the Olazabal & Nadal Invitational.
Just 5km north of Pula Golf Resort, Capdepera Golf is a par 72 parkland layout built in a valley across an old almond plantation. The greens are large as are the fairways, and there’s the occasional dog-leg, but things get more challenging later on in the round as the course winds up into the hills of the nearby mountains. It’s a challenge that builds and requires strategy, but the beautiful mountain and ocean views are worth the trip alone.
(Each golf course is within 20 minutes from any of our recommended hotels)
Cap Vermell Grand Hotel
Cap Vermell Grand Hotel, on the island’s west coast, is a five-star luxury retreat that reflects the style of a traditional Mallorquin hilltop village with references of local art and cultural heritage. The hotel is located in a beautiful tranquil valley and is the perfect place to escape and relax. The 126 oversized guestrooms and 16 luxurious suites have a sophisticated residential feel. There’s beautifully landscaped grounds, four pools, the stunning Serenitas Spa, and excellent dining.
The hotel is also within a 15 minute drive to four 18-hole golf courses. The resort provides free golf shuttle service to Golf Capdepera, Golf Pula, Golf Son Servera and Golf Canyamel.
Hotel Caprice Alcúdia Port
Located in the north of the island by the Port of Alcudia, one of the main leisure epicentres in Mallorca and home to some of the island’s most beautiful coves and beaches – and this hotel is only a few metres away from the beach! Caprice Alcudia Port combines privacy, comfort, gastronomy and luxury. It’s a five-star boutique hotel that has created a haven of relaxation with impeccable service. The rooms and suites are modern and tasteful and expect to eat great food while you’re here. Enjoy the exclusive Pool Club, and pamper yourself in the Wellness Centre & Spa with its full range of treatments.
The hotel has special partnerships with almost every golf course on the island for guests, and Club de Golf Alcanada is just 2km away.
