Golf Trip to Cairo, Egypt

With a fantastic year-round climate and manicured fairways with views of the Great Pyramids, Egypt‘s historic capital city of Cairo is a world-class golf destination. Now open to international travellers, we have picked out four of the city’s best golf courses and excellent nearby accommodation options for the perfect golf trip.

Dreamland Golf Resort

Just 15 km from Cairo and half that distance from the Great Pyramids of Giza, Dreamland Golf Resort boasts a world-class 18-hole golf course. Measuring over 7,000 yards, it’s challenging with tight fairways and water hazards, though with five tee boxes it’s accessible for different ages and skill levels. The Open Championship of Egypt has been held here three times, a sure sign of its quality. At the development there’s also the nine-hole Pharaohs Course that has incredible views of the Pyramids, a nine-hole course at the Academy that offers professional instruction, and a floodlit driving range. The course has a spectacular clubhouse featuring restaurants, lounges, swimming pool, spa and pro-shop.

Allegria Golf Club

We rate this course as Egypt’s best. About 20 km west of Cairo, Allegria Golf Club is part of one of Egypt’s most exclusive residential communities. The 18-hole course was designed by Greg Norman and features natural lakes, streams, rock features, and undulating fairways, creating a visually stunning course, especially with all the trees that frame the surroundings. The tricky greens are large and there’s plenty of sprawling bunkers. Managed by Troon Golf, this is widely seen as Egypt’s premier golf development. The Allegria Country Club was later added offering three restaurants, two swimming pools, tennis courts, bedrooms, gym and spa.

New Giza Golf Club

Just 2 km north of Dreamland, New Giza Golf Club opened in 2019 and is a fantastic addition to Cairo’s golf scene. It’s part of a huge development that includes a sports arena, villas, semi-detached apartments, a university, commercial centre and other recreational facilities. The course stands out due to its elevation changes, valley-like fairways, the imaginatively-shaped undulating greens and the spectacular views of the Pyramids. The course also features several water hazards and landscaped sandy waste areas which line the fairways. This is a must-visit on your trip.

Palm Hills Golf Course

Located next to New Giza, Palm Hills Golf Course offers 27 holes and amazing views of the Pyramids. A collaboration between Sanford Golf Design and Nicklaus Design, there are three nine-hole circuits named Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, with the combination of Khufu and Menkaure considered the 18-hole Championship Course. The fairways are routed around six man-made lakes connected by a series of creeks. It measures a huge 7,264 yards from the back tees, but just 5,177 from the front tees with two other intermediate tees, offering a great round of golf to a wide selection of ability levels. The excellent facilities include a golf academy, driving range, practice putting green and chipping green.

Katameya Dunes

About 20km west of central Cairo, Katameya Dunes rivals Allegria Golf Club as Egypt’s best golf course. Designed by six-time major winner Sir Nick Faldo and architectural duo Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt, it’s a green golfing oasis in the middle of the desert with palm tree lined fairways, extensive bunkering, lakes, streams, and even waterfalls. 27 enjoyable and testing holes have been configured into two courses, The Lakes and The Palms. The Lakes is slightly longer, while both courses share the same front nine. At the site, there’s a five-star hotel and spa and a state-of-the-art Golf Academy.
