La Cala Golf Resort, Spain

Choose one of our stay-and-play packages at La Cala Golf Resort, an outstanding hotel and spa on Spain’s Costa del Sol, home to a trio of world-class championship courses.

This superb option for a golf vacation is located in the region of Mijas, surrounded by the Sierra de Mijas National Park and the Mediterranean, around 30 minutes from Malaga Airport and a 20-minute drive from Marbella. It’s a tasteful and low-rise haven which boasts one of Spain’s leading hydrotherapy health spas, as well as four restaurants and bars.

Mijas

The quintessentially Spanish white-washed village of Mijas is close by where you can indulge in Andalusian cuisine at local tapas bars and restaurants and visit the market and fairground. But the main appeal of La Cala is the golf, with three championship courses designed by world-renowned American golf architect Cabell B. Robinson.

La Cala Hotel & Spa

Room at La Cala Hotel & Spa

The hotel’s 107 rooms are tastefully decorated in a traditional Andalusian style with amenities including air conditioning, LCD TV, safe, tea and coffee-making facilities and complimentary Wi-Fi. The Classic, Superior, Deluxe and Family options come with either a private balcony or terrace to soak up the Spanish sun, with views of the mountains, golf courses and the hotel’s large swimming pool. The options cover all party sizes, for single travellers to couples, families and larger groups.

La Cala Golf Resort and Garden

The La Cala Spa is one of the best in Spain, surrounded by manicured green gardens, trees and a variety of indigenous plants. Facilities include a sauna, steam baths, aromatic showers and a tepidarium. There’s also hydrotherapy jacuzzis and an indoor swimming pool. It’s a lovely place to unwind and enjoy the indulgent treatments and relaxing massages.

Golf Courses & Academy

The three courses at La Cala blend wonderfully into the verdant and hilly scenery of Andalusia. Each was designed by Cabell B. Robinson, designer of the 2023 Solheim Cup venue Finca Cortesin, La Reserva Club Sotogrande and Aphrodite Hills among others.

America Course at La Cala Resort

America Course – This par-72, 6,571-yard course is highly enjoyable with elevated tees, cavernous carries and undulating fairways. Few bunkers make this a slightly easier driving course, though small raised greens and a couple of water hazards demand precise club selection. It’s probably the toughest course at the resort. Like all the layouts at La Cala, it’s beautifully maintained and there are spectacular views to the Sierra de Ojen and the Mediterranean.

Asia Course at La Cala Resort

Asia Course – A par-72, 6479-yard course with great variation. Water is present on two holes and the greens are tight, with half of them elevated requiring tough approach shots where club selection is vital. The course is home to four par-5’s and with its emphasis on strategy, it rivals the America Course as the most challenging at the resort.

Europa Course at La Cala Resort

Europa Course – This par-71, 6576-yard layout is easier for the average golfer, with generous fairways, flatter terrain and slightly larger greens than at America and Asia. Notable for one main bridge and four smaller bridges across the River Ojen, which features eight holes, cutting across three fairways. There are four tunnels for golf carts. Water hazards guard the greens at the 3rd and 14th which is a memorable par-3 challenge at 254 yards.

The La Cala Golf Academy

The La Cala Golf Academy offers lessons and group classes for beginners with multilingual professionals. There’s a grass driving range as well as putting, chipping and bunker facilities. Really appealing to beginners is the six-hole par-3 Academy Course, one of the finest short-game practice facilities on the Costa del Sol. La Cala also has three padel courts, tennis and squash courts, scuba diving, a fitness centre and gym and a FIFA professional standards football pitch.

Food & Drink

The Clubhouse at La Cala Resort

La Terraza Restaurant is the resort’s signature restaurant and serves a specialist Mediterranean menu as well as high-class international dishes on the patio. La Bodega Tapas & Grill offers Andalusian cuisine and tapas with an international twist, and the Panoramic Bar & Restaurant serves up global dishes and is a great place for an evening drink.

Panoramic Bar & Restaurant at La Cala Resort

The Clubhouse has lovely views over the Asia Course and is known for its superb club sandwiches as well as being a meeting point for golfers at the resort. There’s also the pool bar, a particular treat with a range of cocktails, beers, and food that you can bring right to you without having to leave the pool.
