Algarve: Your perfect golf holiday destination
“Golfers from around the world to benefit as the best gets better”
Monte Rei, Portugal, 6th March 2019 – Monte Rei, which is consistently rated as the best golf course in Portugal and in the Top 10 in Europe, has announced it will be developing a second Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Monte Rei, located in the eastern Algarve, will become the only club in Europe to offer two Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses, both of which will be open to discerning golfers.
“We had always planned to have two Nicklaus Signature Courses at Monte Rei, so it is very good news this is now underway,” said Carlos Lopez, Monte Rei board member. “Anyone who has played our existing Jack Nicklaus-designed course will understand the time and effort we put into our facility. We provide an exceptional golf experience and the second course will be designed and built to the same world-class standard.”
The course is being designed by Jack Nicklaus and the renowned Nicklaus Design team, and it is expected that the developer will break ground in June of this year. Regular updates will be provided throughout the design and construction process. A more exact date for the opening of the South Course will be provided next year, but time will be given to ensure that the course meets the very high standards already delivered by the North Course.
Monte Rei Golf & Country Club offers tee times to visiting golfers and has become a very popular destination for international players looking for one of the best golf experiences in the world. When the second course is completed, golfers will have access to 36 incredible holes of golf in the beautiful setting of the eastern Algarve. The significant growth of the resort, as a whole, over the next few years, will not only offer the addition of a second course, it will see the completion of further luxury properties, giving those who seek unique accommodation privileged access to one of Europe’s most prestigious golf destinations.
“On behalf of our team at Nicklaus Design, we are excited that Monte Rei has asked us to design their second course as they continue to improve and develop the club, which is already considered by many as the best in Portugal and one of the finest golf destinations in Europe,” Jack Nicklaus said. “We are fortunate that the North Course has received tremendous acclaim in the region and throughout the world, and we are very proud of what we accomplished. Now we have the opportunity, and challenge, to create a second golf course at Monte Rei, which will not only complement the spectacular North Course but will also meet the high standards the development team has established.
“The South Course will have many similar features, great trees, wonderful topography, beautiful vistas, and has the potential to be another sensational course. Our mission will be to maximize the existing terrain and natural features, so we can create a golf experience that has its own distinct personality, with the same commitment to excellence that golfers expect when they visit Monte Rei.”
The Monte Rei Golf & Country Club also offers a unique opportunity for the discerning property buyer, with apartments and villa plots that have been carefully chosen to offer the most captivating views of the course and beyond, with privacy considered throughout in order to offer an unsurpassed lifestyle and investment opportunity.
