Let’s take a look at what clubs Italian Renato Paratore is carrying in his golf bag, following his victory at the British Masters.
It was the 23-year-old’s second European Tour title after winning the 2017 Nordea Masters, after which he signed an equipment deal with Callaway that sees him use the brand’s equipment throughout his bag. He also uses an Odyssey putter, the putter brand acquired by Callaway in 1997.
Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero (9 degrees)
Shaft: Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw Blue 65 X
For his driver, Renato carries a Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero (with 9 degrees loft). The shaft is a Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw Blue 65 X.
Renato currently ranks 16th in this season’s European Tour driving distance stats, with an average drive of 324 yards. The Mavrik Sub Zero is a low spinning driver with high MOI which offers two interchangeable weights to fine-tune trajectory.
Callaway Mavrik (15 degrees)
Shaft: Graphite Design Tour AD BB
Callaway says this is their fastest fairway wood yet, with a large and expansive hitting area. It features a single fixed weight in the sole to pull the CG low and back in the head for high launch and flat trajectory.
Callaway X Forged UT irons (18 & 24 degrees loft)
Shaft: Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 120 X
Renato uses two Callaway X Forged UT irons with 18 and 24 degrees of loft. The X Forged UT is a forged design with a 360 Face Cup.
Callaway X Forged ’18 (5-PW)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
Renato’s irons, from five-iron to pitching wedge, are Callaway X Forged ’18’s. At the British Masters he found more than 70 percent of greens in regulation, ranking him 11th in the field, and he also recorded just two bogeys for the week. He also played his first 62 holes without dropping a shot.
Callaway Jaws MD5 (50, 54, 58 degrees)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
Callaway says their Jaws MD5 Wedges provide outstanding feel, unique versatility and exceptional spin. They come in 23 different loft/bounce combinations with 5 distinct grind options.
This revolutionary putter features Microhinge Technology for more consistent putting. This technology produces more topspin for a more consistent ball roll. Interestingly, Renato is one of the few Tour players to wear his glove while putting.
2020 Callaway Chrome Soft X
Callaway says the Chrome Soft X provides increased workability and spin control, great feel, and optimized aerodynamics.
Renato is fulfilling the huge promise he showed as an Amateur playing off a handicap of +8. I watched him play on the Dukes Course at St Andrews in an International and European Championship and was immediately tremendously impressed. and I did have a conversation with him. In January 2020 in Orlando Florida I tried out the Mavrik driver against several other makes on FlightScope and found the Mavrik driver consistently producing better results than the others.
