A Stylish Golf Escape at SO/ Sotogrande Resort
Le Manoir is a cosy boutique hotel just minutes from the charming seaside town of Le Touquet where guests can play at five of the best golf courses in France.
Le Manoir is located about 50km south of Calais in northern France. Built in 1911, it’s a quaint English-style building that serves as the four-star hotel for Le Touquet Golf Club. It underwent renovations in 1917 and today it’s an elegant and welcoming place to stay with high-quality hospitality. Guests can play at the three courses at Golf du Touquet as well as at Golfs d’Hardelot.
Nearby, Le Touquet is a chic seaside resort town with a 7km-long sandy beach lined with colourful beach huts with views of England’s famous white cliffs of Dover. It’s well worth a visit, filled with cafes, casinos, bars and restaurants, a market and a waterpark.
Five types of rooms are on offer, ranging from classic to grand suites as well as bungalow rooms with terraces separate from the main building. Each charming option has its own style and unique decor to suit every taste.
There are two restaurants with The Spoon set in the Golf du Touquet clubhouse, situated just five minutes from the centre of Le Touquet. A great place for lunch, it serves regional classics with a terrace with views of the golf course.
La Table du Manoir is in the hotel’s conservatory and serves creative gourmet cuisine, while The Mbar is a relaxing bar with a sunny terrace.
Golf du Touquet stands out as it boasts three high-level golf courses of great variety all at one club. There’s the 18-hole links course La Mer, the 18-hole La Foret course set in a pine and oak forest, and the 9-hole Le Manoir. Together they offer fun and challenging golf for beginners and experts alike, each with their own unique style of golf.
La Mer is an exceptional links course set by the sea among dunes. It’s a 6,275-yard challenge where wind plays a role to go with the incredible sea views. Dating back to 1931, this Harry Colt design is one of the best links courses in France.
La Foret is nestled in the heart of a forest, sheltered from the coastal winds providing a tranquil atmosphere. Measuring under 6,000 yards, it’s not too long and offers a round of great variety. It’s the perfect contrast to its sibling course. The par 35, 9-hole Le Manoir measures just over 3,000 yards and lies inside the routing of the La Foret course. It’s ideal for beginners making Le Touquet very much the complete golf destination.
Just 5km north, Golf d’Hardelot is home to two 18-hole courses set between pine forest and sand dunes. Both Les Pins and Les Dunes each have their own identity and their own clubhouse. The Tom Simpson-designed par-72 championship course Les Pins dates back to the 1930s and has fairways that meander through magnificent trees with natural contours provided by sand dunes. There’s deep strategic bunkering and the greens are immaculate.
Les Dunes opened in 1990 and is located about 2km up the road. It’s a par-71 course laid across natural undulating terrain with a few blind shots, tricky dog legs and testing greenside bunkers. It’s a fun challenge and stands up in quality to its illustrious neighbouring course.
