The best of Lisbon’s glorious Golf Coast

With brilliant golf courses, 5-star hotels and Michelin-starred dining, Lisbon’s Golf Coast deserves all the accolades usually reserved for its more celebrated neighbour, the Algarve. Here’s why.

The region lies west of Portugal’s capital on the Atlantic Coast and is home to more than 20 golf courses within a range of 40 km, some designed by the world’s most famous course architects.

Known for its superb year-round climate, its peaceful atmosphere and fantastic wine and gastronomy, the Lisbon Golf Coast is a true golfing paradise.

Several quality restaurants, a spa, gym, multiple swimming pools, and an Equestrian Centre compliment Oitavos Dunes, the superb Arthur Hills-designed links golf course. It’s a wonderfully natural course with a backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and Sintra mountains. All Square rates this as the 3rd best golf course in Portugal and the 19th best in all of Europe.

At the resort there are 27 golf holes that make the most of the stunning surroundings. Penha Longa Atlantic Championship Golf Course was designed by famed architect Robert Trent Jones Jr and hosted the Portuguese Open three times in 1994, 1995 and 2010. The course weaves across sloping terrain with several holes offering incredible views of the surrounding landscape and hills.
